Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Recent events make the XO power difference seems less of an issue to me

"It seems like it's turning out that next gen textures and effects is a bigger deal than resolution. 720P as long as it has next textures and effects is fine. XO games will be a big step up from 360 ones even at the same 720P resolution Sure 1080P is preferable, but it's not a dealbreaker."

What you said here is exactly true.

IMO anyone who says otherwise isn't a good gamer (or in other words, they care more about the console wars BS than they do about actual games which makes them petty and sad).

I can accept that resolution isnt a big deal to some but when you say "anyone who says otherwise isn't a good gamer" then i think you being a bit of a hypocrite.

A lot of people had high hopes for next gen in terms of visual fidelity...and many people have native 1080p big screen TV's and want the best image they can get. An upscaled 720p image will be notably worse than 1080p.

And many of the previews and DF articles are already stating this...

So yeah while visuals and image quality isnt important for everybody it is for some and that has no bearing on them being a good gamer or not.

You're basically slapping every PC gamer in the face sir......Please continue.

No I am not. Read the quoted part, that's what I'm responding to.

A game in 1080p is better than the same game in 720p everytime but a game being 720p should not be a dealbreaker. It's one factor out of many that should be considered when choosing a console, not the defining factor of that system.

Exactly!

I sure wish all the mods would adopt this perspective here and moderate accordingly.  It sure would make this community better.

Not really

Should we eliminate Nintendo games from games comparison in terms of quality then?

They just jumped to HD era and their games is second to none at sub-HD.

1080p hysteria is something new, post-October 2013.

..umm.. What??

Why would we eliminate Nintendo games in terms of quality?

and ps3 was able to have 1080p games and it came out in 07

That pc is total garbage you just put together.

Much better GPU, CPU on the same performance level, and you can overclock both, how is the PC total garbage for the price? It EASILY outpeforms the Xbone so I guess that's total garbage as well, huh?

Not that I think that PC is garbage by any means but an important thing that needs to be considered when you do comparisons like this is that a PC will almost never be able to produce the graphic fidelity that an equal-speced console can do. If you make a PC with the same specs as the 360 has you'll have trouble trying to get games to look anywhere near as good. This isn't the PC's fault though because console games can be so much more easily optimized than PC games usually are which is why that disparity exists.

@Darth Tigris: I disagree. While I don't understand people who think resolution is all that matters or is the most important thing, they most certainly shouldn't be moderated for it because everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

@Shinobi-san: I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say. I'm not saying that resolution doesn't matter because it does but the people that I entitled "bad gamers" were the people that act like resolution is the most important thing or overplay it. Like I said to adriane23, resolution does matter (and it will matter more or less in varying degrees to different people) but it's one of many things that should be considered when choosing a system, it should not be the defining one and I truly believe the only people that act like it is are the one's that are caught up in the console wars crap.

7 whole years of ps360 didn't get you to realize that the difference in power is not enough to warrant any topic.

$525 overall.

Xbone = $500 + 6% tax = $530.

And that PC build is IF you want windows, if you already have windows or don't want it, you can use that extra $90 to get a 7870 and a better CPU.

So yeah.

The 7850 is considerably more powerful than the XBone's GPU, espescially when you factor in the fact kinect takes 10% of the GPU's resource, overclock the 7850 to 7870 level and the difference is vast. Not to mention the faster RAM my rig has, and arguably much faster processor, which can be overclocked as well.

What I love is that everyone STILL talks like gaming systems are PURELY GAMING and can't compare PC's cause they have the operating system and all that junk

The PS4 and Xbox One are cluttered as well these days with operating sytsems and junk too.  Now they may not be as bad as PC's but they are incresing.

Microsoft is smart to upscale to 1080p. It gives their games a better frame rate and an overall crisp more defined look.

You do realize that the X1's equivalent is an hd 7770, right ?

http://www.anandtech.com/bench/product/778?vs=777

I think we can all safely conclude that his PC will practically kill the X1. Similar specs don't matter much anymore since X1 is literally almost a PC so PCs will also feature some pretty similar optimizations from consoles too.
