So, thanks to kljesta64 link, I've been following the translation of Iwata's interview with 4Gamer and, in the last translated section when they talk about how Iwata wanted the sleep function to be implemented in the GameBoy Advance SP but they couldn't, there's something interesting:

Iwata: I was really upset by that at the time. But that feeling of 'We must do it next time!' connected directly to implementing that feature into the DS.

Kawakami: I do think the concept of a sleep mode for a game console is brilliant.

Iwata: Speaking of that, let's talk about two years ago. Right after the Wii U launched, when you were kind enough to give us quite a lot of feedback, Mr. Kawakami, I had a similar feeling of frustration to the GBA SP situation then. On various points, I thought 'We have to do that next time!'

Kawakami:Oh, I'm sorry. I might have been a little insensitive at the time.

Iwata: Not at all. But, because of that, because of that frustration, not only do we want it to connect with features next time, we are actually working to fix it for next time.

Speculation time! What could they be talking about?

Hm, related to the sleep mode or hardware features in general?

It does have standby modes. Maybe a feature to pause games in a sleep mode with almost no power consumption (like the standby mode) and no boot time when you want to start them again.

Or maybe the 3D technology that the New 3DS uses for the GamePad if he talks about general hardware features.

I was talking about features in general, both hardware and software.

And I like the idea of pausing the game and leaving it on sleep mode to continue playing later/the next day just at the same place.

I wish they would hurry up with changes that matter.

1-3DS needs to be playable on tv through 3DS asap!
2-GC games need to arrive along with DS asap!
3-VC and eshop on DS and Wii need to come over to Wii U asap! I think I have some DS eshop games that I will never touch again. Same with wii games.

4-Memory added to Gamepad to play VC and eshop games on the go....somehow.

Many things to say:

1-No. 3DS games on a big and high resolution screen will look like crap. Keep the 3DS games on the 3DS... or make that using the WiiU to upscale/improve image quality.

2-Agree

3-Definitely agree

4-No, to play games on the go is why Nintendo makes handhelds. Besides it's not only a matter of putting memory on the Gamepad, they would also have to add a CPU, GPU and sound chip, making it another handheld by itself which is pointless.

Please excuse my bad English.

Currently gaming on a PC with an i5-4670k@stock (for now), 16Gb RAM 1600 MHz and a GTX 1070

Steam / Live / NNID : jonxiquet    Add me if you want, but I'm a single player gamer.

Not going to suggest anything, but the Wii U may have sold ~620K from December 1st to December 21st in the US.

Which is already ~200K more than last year's NPD.

This is going by VGC's 2013 numbers, which I hope are accurate. Anyway I'll check with Seece's NPD numbers.

EDIT: Seece's numbers show ~690K.

Recalculation shows ~510K.

Unless the Wii U sells ~330K in the US alone next week, we are looking at some undertracking by VGchartz.

690k would be a true Christmas miracle.

Where are the numbers coming from? Does he have the numbers of a major retailer or something like that?

btw: Reggie saide here that hardware sales are up about 40% over last year (entire calendar year?): http://seattletimes.com/html/businesstechnology/2025273406_briercolumn22xml.html

2013 is still a little overtracked and 2014 seems undertracked.

Reggie said the sales are up 40% over last year. He said this on the 21st of December, or that's when we first heard it. The 510K is from VGC 1/1/13-21/12/13, and adding 40%.

690K is 40% above last year's total according to NPD.

I just edited that in, lol.

He talked about the calendar year, I guess it's 40% over 2013, not Dec. 2013 vs. Dec. 2014. But I'm not sure.

In retrospect, he might be talking about Jan-Nov when he says up 40%.

Which is precisely why I didn't make a thread about it.

Which is what I was calculating. I did a lot of calculations here.
