Forums - Microsoft Discussion - [CONFIRMED] Marious (Ryse) Polygon Count Downgrade from 150K to 85K

Tagged games:

I think many people may be missing the overall point of why stuff like this gets pointed out. After E3 all you heard from Xbox fans for a couple months regarding what the Xbox One could do were how all of these games were running in 1080p at 60 fps and with astounding detail by pointing out the 150k poly count for the main character of Ryse. As of the last month or so, reality is setting in. Dead Rising 3 might end up being locked at 30fps and it's not impressive as far as individual details are concerned. Killer Instinct runs at 720p in order to maintain 60fps and that is another example of a game that is not impressive as far as technical visuals are concerned. Ryse is native 900p, will actually have nowhere near the poly count originally claimed, and there is some debate as to what its final framerate will be. You also have the rumblings around the internet now that Forza 5 might not look as impressive as some thought it would.

To make the sting even worse, apparently BF4 on either console doesn't look nearly as good as the PC version and there is a recent report that Watch Dogs will only run at 30fps on both consoles. Bottomline, as of right now next gen is not looking that impressive and if you were one of the many Xbox fans parading around the idea that these games were running at top resolution, top framerate, and definitely looking better than anything the competition had... it's probably time for you to start choking. Beyond that, there is really no reason to harp on these games so bad because visuals alone do not make the experience for many games. Killer Instinct doesn't need to run at 1080p to be fun. Dead Rising 3 doesn't need to run completely smooth to be a blast to blow up hordes of zombies. Ethomaz, I believe, is more or less pointing this out to the drones who took every little piece of MS PR BS and tried to use it as some kind of proof that Xbox One was graphically superior.

I wonder if they had to downgrade to get some of the other technical aspects stable. (EDIT: Just seen the tweet, yeah about in line with what I was thinking).

but, then again, the cloud is supposed to be so awesome isn't it?

I think most people here didn't get the point of this thread....

1) This change is a big deal? No... 85k is fine.
2) This change will be noticeable? In game, I guess no... paused screen, if you look yeah they changed some polygons of the chain in the arm to 2D texture.

The issue is... CryTek said and I will quote their words:

"For starters, thanks to our new version of the CRYENGINE and our incredibly talented artists and coders, we are pushing the Xbox One’s graphics capabilities beyond anything that’s ever been seen, right out of the gate. Our main character, Marius Titus, is possibly the most detailed main protagonist in any game. Our character models are incredibly detailed, with some of the most advanced facial animations ever seen in video games. Our environments are gorgeous. We have really solid combat mechanics coupled with our unique cinematic executions that will really make you feel connected to the battle. All of this is wrapped in an intricate and intriguing story of revenge, featuring an unforgettable cast of historical characters!"

And showed this 150k polygon count slide.

Now they downgraded the most detailed main protagonist to 80k polygon... so everything they talked since beginning was PR bull and I don't like that... it is obvious they are running Ryse over a target DevKit machine at E3 with more powerful hardware than they received with the final Xbone DevKit.

Another wrong assumption here... DF never did any pixel count with Ryse, they just asked to CryTek and they said the game was running in 1080p@30fps... and I believe the game was running in this resolution at E3... after that they need to downgrade the game.

Silly ethomaz, this is without the cloud once you put it online the number goes back up to 150k, how do I know? I used to date the daughter of one of the guys who used to be friend with one of the developer's brother in law, I knew about this since 2008

Bet reminder: I bet with Tboned51 that Splatoon won't reach the 1 million shipped mark by the end of 2015. I win if he loses and I lose if I lost.

i'm not saying that it is true what cevat said in his last tweet but if it is true then please, don't tell me that crytek should say "hey people, we realized that we could let the game look better but we won't because polygons for character model are more important for us as a better looking game"

let's wait and see the retail version, something we normally do with this gen games.

When the fuck did anything happen to Forza. Why do you keep talking out of your ass.

You will now reference the one article from TGS right?

Today high quality direct feed video released by MS... far from the demo at E3.

I posted the link here: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/thread.php?id=169292

If you are curious I even posted my opinion: http://gamrconnect.vgchartz.com/post.php?id=5692193

Still best looking driving game. I really don't see any downgrade.

The E3 demo has strong AA, enviropment shadowns, no motion blur... that's just to start. The video showed yesterday is a big disapointing to be fair even for Forza fans... download it (570MB) and watch how the IQ is not like the E3 demo.

And about the best lookin driving game... DriveClub is looking far better than Forza 5 right now... how the things changed, no? E3: Forza 5 cleary winner... right now? DriveClub looking better.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned deep down. That was an extreme downgrade. It went from nextgen to currentgen in 7 months. It still looks ok though.

I think DC has beautiful lighting but is no where near forza in the looks department. Will have to wait until launch to make comparisons.

Deep Down was runnin in PCs (Core i7 + GTX 570) and now it is running on PS4... the first PS4 demo at E3 looked bad but the second at TGS was really far better than E3 footage... and nobody expected (or even Sony or Capcom said) the game will look like what they showed in February running on PC.

And not that was not an extreme downgrade... the TGS demo looks close to reveal demo on PC.

That's the difference... PR... every Sony game showed in PS4 machines at E3 gets better close to release... every Xbone game showed in Xbone machines at E3 is getting worst close to release (except maybe Dead Rising 3).

The games running in PC like CoD, BF4, etc... these will continue run better on PC.
