I'm wondering... do GTA games really deserve the scores they get?

umm yeah

Your response is in no way sufficient to me.  What makes the games deserve nearly perfect scores?  MANY great games don't even pass 90.  Fire Emblem: Awakening BARELY passed 90.  Kid Icarus: Uprising didn't even get close to 90, though I think it completely deserves 90 or higher if GTA deserves to be the highest rated games in video game history for nearly every iteration.

Might as well get it for my 360, multiplats have always worked better, not significantly, but still better.

It will end below GTA IV I guess... GTA IV holds 99 for a lot of time before down to 98... I think GTA V will down to 97 even it being a better game.

I see no real difference between games averaging between 93 to 98 on metacritic. Games scoring between 93 to 98 are effectively the same top quality. GTA V is another top quality game for the year that plays as good as Last of Us and Bioshock Infinite.

I find it hard to quantify games on numerical metrics, but I even as a big fan before 4 killed the series for me neer thought of them as games that would place in all time greats.  They're a bunch of fun and if I had to give scores would say 80-90% along the series.  If you like open world they are among the best, but would suggest Saints Row and Red Dead Redemption as alternatvies this generation.

I have not played GTA 5 to speak on its quality.

"The PlayStation 3 version of the game is slightly less impressive than the 360 version, with enough terrible problems, glitches and annoyances to drop its score by a single point."

Lolwut.

Agreed..if anything the PS3 version has slightly better textures but the difference is far too small to say one is superiour to the other.

I take it you didn't read the following following sentence that suggested the statement was just sarcasm anyway? " More realistically, that says more about 100-point rating systems and average score than it does about GTA V and it’s fair to presume that both games share almost identical positives and negatives"

I'm sure the 2% distinguishing it from the 96 games marks a significant difference in quality.

I'm playing it now, and it's great, but a metascore in the high 90s is just ridiculous. It's not flawless by any stretch. Hell, it's not even the best-made game of this year by any stretch (I'd put it in third). But to each their own, I suppose. It's worth noting that the user score is much lower.

yes and with unbiased criticism like this :"I don't like the GPS min-map, i would rather a top down like previous versions, therefore this game is 0/10"(actual mc user review) I think it's fair to say many reader reviews should not be taken seriously either.

Because people think it's nearly perfect.

On spot.

Most big part of the gamers thinks it is nearly perfect... so the scores are fair.

Sure, it's not flawless. But how can you say with so much certainty that it's not the best game this year (without being completely subjective)?
