nightsurge said: So does anyone have an accurate total performance of PS3? I'd like to be able to make comparisons to last gen. I definitely did not think that the PS3 had a 100% performance advantage over the 360. It will be interesting to see if the on paper performance gap this gen is actually less than previous gens, or if it will be about the same. Also interesting to see if that reflects on real world performance or not. Since the PS4 and Xbox One have more standard PC architecture, that will mean less time getting familiarized with the technology, and less of a learning curve in the case of the PS3/Cell. So a smaller gap in theoretical performance may equal the same real world gap as last gen. Or it may be a bit more or a bit less. |
Well the problem is every gen except this new one, the console specs have been very different than each other and full of positives and negatives. Like PS3 had a better CPU than 360, but 360 had the better GPU. It really took real world tests to see which made better looking games.
This gen the closest thing we had to an unknown was XBONE vs PS4 ram. Back before February we thought PS4 only had 4GB of GDDR5 while XBONE had 8GB of DDR3 plus 32MB of esram. One had more ram, the other had better bandwidth ram. Most of us thought the PS4 solution was better for games, but it was still something that greatly depended on what developers actually ended up doing with the hardware.
Now that Sony bumped the RAM to 8GB, it's cut and dry that the PS4 has better ram. In fact all components in the XBONE are either the same or better in the PS4. This means it's literally as easy as just comparing the numbers, unlike every other gen.
The two exceptions to this are the XBONE CPU and the XBONE audio chip. The PS4 CPU is clocked slower and the audio chip is less powerful(not worse audio, but it needs help from the cpu). This could make a similar situation to last gen where one system has a better CPU and the other a better GPU making comparisons a lot harder, but luckily for us the CPUs are still very close in performance compared to the rest of the systems.
TLDR: Can't use previous gen stuff to compare next gen hardware.
