Forums - Gaming Discussion - What is the case for the Wii U being the perfect upgrade we need now, and the PS3 and ONE being overkill?

If we bought consoles only for horse power we should rethink our spending habits. It would be cheaper on the long run to buy a PC.

But of course we don't look at that, If not I wouldn't have bought a Wii. I got a Wii because it had games, exclusive ones, that interested me. You buy a console for games, not horse power. If less horse power affects you then go ahead and buy a PC, but you won't have the same games the Wii u has. You won't be able to play mario kart 8 on your PC!

The Wii U is not for people who only care about specs. Neither are the PS4 & Xbone. What is the case for buying one of those when I could just make a gaming PC?

Most of the western devs are using PC level tech and most of their games by art direction are planned to be large in scale and the graphics are changing. PC gaming takes a dedicated person who wants to upgrade from time to time. Console gamers get all the major games plus they get the Japanese titles that don't go to PC. Nintendo's tablet went over the heads of the casuals that the device was aimed for.

Can't get the exclusives on a PC and the multiplats are highly attainable on a console. You shouldn't have to be forced to buy a PC if a new console with at least a high graphics level of PC should suffice.

What I mean is that if you are so keen on horsepower you should buy a PC as it's the most powerful gaming device available. Of course that makes you lose a lot of exclusives, I was just answering the OP.

for ps360 owners the only argument nintendo can make is that the gamepad will make gaming better.  after almost a year on market i still haven't seen any meaningful examples of how the gamepad will do that however.

without that i can't think of anything to drawn in ps360 gamers.  ps4/xbone have better specs, better online services, better entertainment services, better third party support, better more appropriate first party support (which isn't a dig on nintendo it's just that the ones who pick ps360 over wii for things like halo and uncharted aren't likely to be impressed with things like wiiparty), and in all likelyhood a better communities as all signs point to ps4/xbone sales adoption to significantly outpace wiiU.

well, there's price in wiiU's favor i suppose.

Reading the OP, you'd think there's been a whole lot of people going around and saying the PS4One are not needed as tech upgrades or something.
I don't know where you're getting this "only Wii U is needed, Ps4 and One are overkill" thing from. Who's been saying this?

I don't have an answer to this.

I still use my Wii extensively. 360 on rare occasion. Zero interest in WiiU nor PS4/XB1.

Unless your a big Nintendo fan, there really is no reason to get a WiiU. Even if you're a Wii only owner.

The johnlucas scernario where Nintendo dominates, and gets back the core audience depends on what I said:

Idea is Nintendo will return and be top dog and win.  In short, they will win next generation.  This means a marginal upgrade the Wii U offers, but not as much as the PS4/ONE.  I was curious to have that case presented.

What I have seen in this thread, you get a Wii U to upgrade the Wii and also play Nintendo exclusives.  I have not seen the Nintend exclusives driving the core audience now, but their base.  As has been shown Nintendo's base is not sufficient to dominate.

So, I was asking what scenario/case would be todo this.

I am keen on it and I can understand why people would upgrade. I've been far more social on consoles with friends and made new friends than I ever did on PC, but I understand your point.

I just said it was the most powerful gaming device... But personally I don't use it! xD I prefer consoles for the controllers and besides all my friends are there. I have no friends who play on PC.
