Forums - Gaming Discussion - Google Play bests Nintendo and Sony handheld devices in mobile gamer purchases

I've been saying this for a while, but most of the hardcore gaming community wants to keep their head in the sand

EDIT: lol reading more of the replies in here, some people definitely have their heads firmly planted in the sand. "Mobile games and Handheld games aren't in the same market". Bullshit, they are all in the same category, even console games. They all compete for consumer dollars.

Platinums: Red Dead Redemption, Killzone 2, LittleBigPlanet, Terminator Salvation, Uncharted 1, inFamous Second Son, Rocket League

Mobile gaming is killing dedicated handhelds like Youtube is killing TV. Take that as you will.

I honestly thought this happened a long time ago.

iOs passed them over a year ago. android just did. Won't be long before the Windows ecosystem does as well... Especially with the big push coming from Halo Spartan Assault and stuff like  this - http://www.engadget.com/2013/08/21/gameloft-amiga-games-windows-8-windows-phone/

Whats left after that?  Blackberry VS dedicated handheld gaming...Fight!

Saying mobile gaming will takeover handheld gaming is like saying Facebook games will takeover console games. Two completely different markets.

One can think this while we all watch the dedicated handheld gaming spend go down year over year and quarter over quarter...

blame sony, nintendo 3DS is up yoy in software spending

Handheld console games aren't comparable with mobile games, IMO. I had an Android tablet and I see the main appeal into playing those games, which are the prices, but you can't seriously compare them to handheld games. Already sold my Android tablet since I thought it was a complete waste of money, most games on these devices are not worth playing, but game prices and "cool factor" are certainly a driving force into the rise of those mobile games.

Not really.  IPTV is mainly a different means of delivering the same content.  Youtube is a cheaper way to distribute video content which typically focuses on smaller developers, shorter videos, and lower budget offerings.  Seems the more apt analogy.

Downfall of cable to IPTV has nothing to do with content but advertising revenue. IPTV isn't killing TV because of people content but because advertising model isn't able to cover the losses on the cable side.

IPTV has to play by internet advertising rules which are vastly different than the ones cable TV industry set in stone few decades ago.
