Forums - Sony Discussion - Well FF14 Beta is a pile of

Got it on the PC, its only 16 pounds.

I'm amazed to see so much hate for B2P. I recognise its inconvenient to pay any more than one sub, but this games is really well developed and is a great example to other publishers/developers on how to turn something not so good in something sucessful. I hope the game see sucess, it is quite good bar the global cooldown that they really should set to 1.5 seconds. Stop treating us like retards japanese devs. Arigato gozeimasu!

Since were in the topic, i know im not in the majority but i do prefer B2P over F2P. I hate beeing nickle and dimed. Its a huge turnoff for me. Star wars has a nice hybrid model though.

If the popularity of the game in the beta is anything to go by though, it might be a sucess with the B2P model. Theres definitly plenty of content there to make the sub worth it, at least for now.

Around the Network

I hate buy to play any free to play to be honest. Playing a game and getting game advancement shouldn't be based upon how much money you can spend on a cash shop for extra bonuses.

In P2P everyone pays the same sub, and you get regular updated content. It is the better model by far, and it keeps people out who would otherwise just make free accounts to be jerks.

Also the beta got extended a little so it's still up for 2 more hours.

F2P games have a lot of issues too. They're good for effing around. However they turn the game into pay to win games, with all kinds of locked shit, though some are better than others. SE could still do both which would make the fee unbearable like secret world when it first started out, as they have that annoying model on iphone, and a smaller MMO (I forgot what it was called).

I plan on playing it for the free month plus 2 which would make it about the price of a normal game. If it's amazing (as in one of the best FF's) I'll continue to pay, if not it'll have been a fun experience for 3 months. The alpha I played was a lot of fun though. I do wonder if MMO's did a smaller fee like 5.99 if they'd get more people just forgetting to cancel since the expense would look small enough for people to sneeze at.
