Forums - Gaming Discussion - Has anyone ever thought of this... maybe its a good thing Wii U had a rough first year?

Will the Wii U be a success?

yes 231 70.43%

If Wii U had been a smash success, like wii, sony and ms would obviously have put more focus and development into their own tablet controller, right? Lets face it, vita remote is no where near the same as gamepad. Vita remote can't act as a second screen, it only mimicks the offscreen feature. And smart glass is not an xbox controller.

So if Nintendo turns the Wii U around, they will be the only ones with a true tablet controller with 100% attach rate. So if and when the competition tries to copy like they did the wii remote with move and kinect, they will still be behind.

What are your thoughts? Btw im not suggesting this was the plan all along. Do you think the fact that sony and ms didn't copy Nintendo's tablet strategy could help the house that Mario built?

Microsoft and Sony didn't copy the Wii right after it came out. What makes you think that, if the Wii U actually ends up doing anything at all, they wouldn't wait again?

This isn't a very good way of trying to rationalize the Wii U's failure up to this point.

Yes, I honestly believe this will strongly play in their favor over the long run. I really believe in the device, I believe in the DS strategy and the U is a part of that. I think that the current "Failures' of the U will lead to prosperity very shortly. I'm eagerly expecting it for more than one reason (stocks, and feeding crow). Just kidding about the crow part. But it'll be nice to see Nintendo vindicated once again.

As a Nintendo fan since the beginning of my gaming life, I will tell you this.

I. DON'T. CARE. ABOUT. THE. TABLET.

I WANT GAMES.

Desktop: AMD Phenom X4 955, ATI Radeon 7950 :: Laptop: Intel i7-3532QM, ATI Radeon 7670m

Consoles: 3DS XL, PS Vita, Zelda 3DS, PS3 Super Slim, DSi, PSP Go, PS3 Fat, Wii, GameCube, PS2

Now Playing: Metroid Prime 2, Dark Souls, Fallout: New Vegas, The Legend of Zelda: Oracle of Ages, Persona 4: Golden

I think its a good thing but not for the reasons u gave. Having such a horrible beginning hopefully will let them know that they cant get away with having huge droughts and that people arent loyal to a brand but to quality games. Im glad they went thru it now and not when the competition is already out.

The Wii U will be a success eventually, sometime next year it will pick up and will start to sell well

That's precisely the point. Likelast time the competition will have to wait and then play catch up if its a success. Were as if success was indicated early on the competition would have integrated a tablet controller at launch.

In other words, it will be too late. I agree with you, snyps.

Wait... what?

The Wii was a success when it released, MS and Sony didn't have their motion control things out for awhile after the Wii released. Also, Sony and MS wouldn't be able to just come up with a Tablet controller in a few months time.

Edit: If the Wii U is a success there either will or won't be copies. If it isn't, there won't be any. Either way, it won't give Nintendo an advantage. I think... you've confused me... I think...

I'd say crow makes it even =)
