He already tweeted the article was false, so I'm guessing the numbers must be higher than what Leadbetter reported.  Of course, he's not going to give out specific numbers if Sony hasn't.  Apparently, insiders at Gaf have been alluding to 6GB, though.  Either way, it's still an improvement over the 3GB they originally had.

ya im completly lost from being gone all day. so many numbers, so many updates and insiders.. i cant keep track of it all..

what is the most recent legitimate information? and did brian P ever release the editorial he said he was writing?

I am Torgo, I take care of the place while the master is away.

"Hes the clown that makes the dark side fun.. Torgo!"

Ha.. i won my bet, but i wasnt around to gloat because im on a better forum!  See ya guys on Viz

From one of the insiders in GAF:

Thank you Kagari. :o

I hope this puts an end to the GAF hive mind. Stop trying to compose a narrative where the RAM available on PS4 is somehow compromising next generation titles. Famousmortimer, Bruce, Verendus, and I have all heard:

"The memory situation on PS4 is ideal and has exceeded expectations in every way."

This cannot be repeated enough. No matter how many times this was said, there is "disappointment" and an insistence that Sony is crafting a machine that isn't focused on gaming. Stop it GAF.

WITH THIS SAID: There are games in development that are using 6 GB of RAM. I will not say any more about this.

I will say: the RAM situation on launch, will not reflect the RAM situation in two years, and not reflect the RAM situation at the end of the console's life cycle.

Another hint I've been trying to drop is that there is potential for an upclock a few years into the console life cycle for both Xbox One and PS4. This can give a late generation graphics boost similar to the one on PSP. (Optimistic parrot hopes for a 2.4 TF 1 GHZ GPU)

Finally,
GAF, I love you, but sometimes you have to understand people can be wrong. I've been wrong, yes, I'm sorry, but I have never personally tried to mislead anyone. Leadbetter has done incredible work on reporting the ins and outs of these machines, and is an amazing source of knowledge. I've chatted with him personally about 4k gaming and where we see the future of graphics. Do not make Leadbetter out to be some console fanboy that is getting paid in Kinnects.

If this means great multi-tasking (AKA Vita) and having everything run butter smooth while a game is running?

Im all for it. If you are taking that much RAM Sony, please use it wisely. I want a smooth XMB while running games please!

At this point there has been more then enough of insiders saying that DF is wrong.

I guess you will believe Leadbetter if you are anti-Sony. Just keep in mind those are the guys who stand behind 7 mins when Sony confirmed 15.

You need to read the whole thing, the DF article is not false because they get their info from the Sony documents.  What Brain is stating is that 1GB allocation.  In other words 4.5 dedicted for games then there is the 512 devs cn request, then the other 512 that is managed by the OS.

People need to be banned for making generalized statements its causing a shit ton of animosity.

All I hear in this thread is "Sony fans this", "MS fans that" blah blah blah.

Meanwhile its the 10 nutjob MS/Sony fanboys on the site who always get everything fucked up and jump on every little thing. Ban these guys and our forums will be a happier place.

What I believe is that Richard was shone a Sony document and we got the DF article.  I believe there is no reason for Richard to lie or that he would risk his reputation to make false statements.  I believe the gray area has always been the 1GB of virtual or whatever its called.  How its allocated. In the end, it means that Sony is being concervative on memory at the start of this gen which is probably smart.  As others have mentioned I would like a smooth experience during Hibernation or pausing my game to do other stuff then come back.  This type of stuff takes memory.
