I know how important BC is to you, but it's really no near as important to most of the market as it is to you. For example, most everyone would buy a PS3 if it was $199.

I am not belittling your reasons for buying it. I am just saying you are in the extreme minority. Big companies don't really try to accommodate the extreme moronity unfortunately.

Do you have proof I am in the extreme minority? Unlike you, if a company offered one feature, called it a core value and dropped it - I would hold that company's feet to the fire. And if I am in the minority on this, why do folks on other sites - including Best Buy - complain about buying a PS3 that doesn't play PS2 games?

No one has data on this, not you, not me. We are all just guessing.

But let me see if I follow you on this. You are saying that because you are not the extreme minority, that if Sony dropped the price of the non BC PS3 to $199, sales would not go up significantly? (Because everyone with your views won’t buy it)

I think if the PS3 was $199, Sony would not be able to make enough of them.

Just for my peace of mind, what stopped Bioshock and Gears from being real console exclusives?

starcraft - Playing Games = FUN, Talking about Games = SERIOUS

To all the people who are waiting for hardware BC, you do know its not going to happen right? I mean you realize that they may figure out software BC for games or do what Microsoft did and offer originals PS2 games as download purchases.

Unfortunately, it comes down to the selling market. If people bought mostly 40 gig PS3s because BC didn't matter to then, then they are not going rush to put the hardware back in. Just like if people didn't buy the Arcade sku of the X360, they wouldn't be selling it or getting ready for a Japan release.

People keep saying cost doesn't matter, but tell that to the 8 million people who bought PS2 just last year. And those console sells are profitable, not the 60 gig PS3 that had the PS2 architecture in it. Nor was it selling fast enough for Sony. But the 40 gig loses a lot less money for them, sells more units, and the lost money is made up in software sales, which is the business model.

I'm just saying...
