This is how you have drops on RL with a 1080 and 6850k.

While it is spreading the load on most cores it still puts the majority of it on a single core. And that, my kids, is why more cores in gaming are useless.

Depends on whether or not the game uses it. We have a few games that do take advantage of multi-core and even hyper-theading.

Yes we already have a few. Good that multi core CPUs have only been invented last year. Amazing pace of adaption.

There is one exception to that rule. Running multiple apps in tandem. Throw that Game+Xsplit+Twitch+Origin+Steam+uDontPlay+Gog Galaxy+Blizzard App+Security Software+Music Player+Browser with some tabs+Background services+Transcode jobs+Other apps over multiple monitors and watch a quad-core chip fold.

In general, games are happy with 4-cores if you aren't doing much else.
I mean. When I first got my Phenom 2 x6, the only video game I was playing was Minecraft, which was happy with up-to 2 cores, but I was still using all 6-cores to it's fullest as I was doing Folding while gaming.

6 cores is slowly starting to trickle down into the mainstream, which means that games should start being better threaded over the coming years.
I think once Intel finally abandons it's Dual-Cores and follows AMD and has it's Quad-core chips as the lowest-end offering, we might start to see the transition accellerate.

Coffee Lake will bring 6-cores to Intels mainstream platform, I would expect intel to expand on that after Coffee Lake.
Could be worst though. We could be peasants with only Jaguar CPU's. :P

Half-Life 2's boat level is being remade without the boat bloat
http://www.pcgamer.com/half-life-2s-boat-level-is-being-remade-without-the-boat-bloat/
Earlier this week, we watched some SGDQ speedrunners surf and fly through Water Hazard, Half-Life 2’s wettest level. Normally, you coast through with a boat, stopping here and there to shoot aliens and open gates. It’s a relaxing venture compared to Nova Prospekt’s turret hell.
Ditching the boat makes sense if you’re trying to go fast, but modder WALLe’s anti-boat agenda runs deep. They’re redesigning the entire Water Hazard level to be playable from start to finish without a floaty friend.

>>If you want to try it, go to the ModDB page of this mod.

>>I'd say, go for it before they get a C & D letter from Capcom.

And now, part two of the news:

Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar launch delayed
http://www.pcgamer.com/grimoire-heralds-of-the-winged-exemplar-launches-today-after-20-years-of-development/
Grimoire: Heralds of the Winged Exemplar is one of the most infamous videogames ever to be (almost, but not quite) created. In development since the mid-'90s, it promises players a massive, sprawling old-school RPG/dungeon crawling experience with traces of Wizardry, Might and Magic, Eye of the Beholder, and other first-person, party-based classics. It's missed an untold number of release dates over the years—gamers were joking about it at least as far back as 2010—and so when it turned up on Steam Early Access earlier this year, I figured it was doomed to languish there forever.
But it looks like I was wrong. Grimoire : Heralds of the Winged Exemplar was not only given the Greenlight, but it actually has a release date of July 7, and holy cow, that's today.
Update: So close, and yet not quite. With less than two hours before the scheduled unlock on Steam, Grimoire's release date very suddenly switched to "coming soon."

Jeff Kaplan says Overwatch is balanced, and he likes the "dive meta" just fine
http://www.pcgamer.com/jeff-kaplan-says-overwatch-is-balanced-and-he-likes-the-dive-meta-just-fine/
Overwatch game director Jeff Kaplan has taken to the forums to share, in great detail, his thoughts on getting and keeping the game in balance, and how Blizzard can and should (or shouldn't) mess with the "meta." First and foremost—and also, he predicted, most controversial—is that he believes the game is actually balanced as it stands right now.

Star Citizen's procedural planets flaunted in new video

Star Citizen's latest Around the Verse video focuses, primarily, on the sophisticated procedural generation that's being used to create the enormo-space adventure's many planets and moons. In the video, the occasionally slightly boring technical talk is supported by some lovely footage of science fiction planets, from barren desert worlds to more lush environments, with a variety of ecosystems on each.

Destiny 2's art portal will give a closer look at its armor and weapons
http://www.pcgamer.com/destiny-2s-art-portal-will-give-a-closer-look-at-its-armor-and-weapons/
Much like Bungie did with the first Destiny, the FPS developer has kicked off the artist reference portal for Destiny 2 on its website.
The portal's name is appropriate, as it's a good reference for artists looking to create any number of pieces—whether that's a drawing or piece of equipment for cosplaying. The page currently only features Parade Armor for each of the three classes: Warlock, Titan, and Hunter. You can see all three right here in this article, but if you want to download high res versions of them, you'll have to head over to the portal.

Crypt of the Necrodancer: Amplified trailer heralds next week's release
http://www.pcgamer.com/crypt-of-the-necrodancer-amplified-trailer-heralds-next-weeks-release/
Rhythm roguelike Crypt of the Necrodancer—as far as I can tell, it's still the only one—has a DLC expansion that's already out in early access, but if you prefer to wait until things are finished before you consume them, you'll be pleased to hear that Amplified will release, for real, next week. How 'next week'? July 12 next week, that's how.

Redout's Mars DLC is out now
http://www.pcgamer.com/redouts-mars-dlc-is-out-now/
Ben Griffin wasn't overly enthusiastic when he reviewed the game last year, but it's since been embiggened with a range of DLC, including the Neptune-set, er Neptune Pack, and the more abstract V.E.R.T.E.X Pack, both of which added new tracks, liveries and more. The latest is the Mars Pack, released a couple of days ago alongside a couple of sizable updates that make an already speedy game even faster.

I'm honestly waiting on cheaper wireless VR, THat's where the fappening will be at .

Really though, VR is expensive atm and there isn't a whole lot of polish and really great titles going for it. Porn will be one thing, but we need that to explode in terms of numebr and quality, rather than say 1-3 porn sites that charge you out the "ass" for a few VR experiences.

I'm waiting till VR in general is cheaper and gives out better quality anything.

Step right up come on in, feel the buzz in your veins, I'm like an chemical electrical right into your brain and I'm the one who killed the Radio, soon you'll all see

So pay up motherfuckers you belong to "V"

Welp I bit the bullet on Sat and ordered a different 1080ti. I was originally going with the Zotac Amp Extreme version since it was cheaper than the Strix and had more going for it, but that shot up to £805, the strix was also high on the price charts as well so I decided to roll for the AORUS Xtreme Edition. Oddly enough it's better than the strix and cost less as well (£693).

I'll order the other parts this week since the RAM hasn't shot up any further than the £116 price it's currently at.

I'm still boned for choice G-sync wise when it comes to 1080p, without bad ghosting, colours or lag.

Would be cool if the Vive had a price cut
