About 15 mln. PS3 is still oustelling 2001 PS2 numbers, you can check that in my thread. =)

I don't really understand why the Sony fans keep saying that their line-up is so much better.
The PS2 had 3 major system sellers:

1) GTA
2) Gran Turismo
3) Final Fantasy

The most important one went multiplatform, of which the 360 will benefit the most because the franchise is biggest in the States. The other two won't arrive in 2008.

Of course everyone will start screaming"MGS 4!!!" but imho that's a moderate system seller at best. Sure it will sell a lot, but it will cater the people that already have a PS3.

I'm not saying PS3 won't outsell the 360 in 2008, but it lost 2007 and it will take at least until GT5 and FF13 are out until the PS3 can think about taking over the LTD sales of the 360.

I think that the PS3 will catch up to th 360 when microsoft releases their next console in 09/10. With Blu-Ray winning and the PS3 price coming down sony should be able to keep beating the 360 in world wide sales from here on.

Yes, that is a small difference, because the series was biggest in Europe, where it is a much closer contest. In America, Burnout on 360 outsold the PS3 version by more than 3 to 1.

To your comment about PS2 in 2001:
Yes, and that is exactly why it is crazy. It can't sell that much when it doesn't have as many exclusives, and when it costs twice as much. Final Fantasy X, Gran Turismo 3, and Grand Theft Auto 3 were all released that year, and they were all exclusive. Without GTA's exclusivity and the other 2 not coming this year (except for maybe in Japan), the PS3 has no chance of selling that well.

I think that the PS3 is eventually going to outsell the 360 just because of what history tells us. The 360 is only averaging 8 million a year in consoles sales, where as the PS3 is averaging around 9. EVENTUALLY the PS3 is going to catch up. Maybe when MGS4 comes out the other 100 million aspiring PS3 owners will come out of the woodwork. :)

Actually, it is not important to know that GT5/FF will not come in 08.
The thread is not about 2007 sales numbers or 2007 line-up.

The important point is that :

Xbox360 : GTA = 1
PS3 : GTA+GT+FF = 3

3 > 1

PS3 > Xbox360

What are the first year sales of the 360 compared to the first year sales of the PS3? That should be a good indicator of which console is making the quickest gains.

PS3 has much MORE GREAT game in 2008, then PS2 had in 2001.
sales of DMC4 in usa/europe will pretty much show how will sell GTA4 in usa/europe. =)

They won't drop to $300 if they want to make a profit at some point. That would be economic suicide. And 360 and Wii would drop their prices as well, making the cut much less useful. Sony is doomed to abysmal American sales, and Wii will keep its 70+% marketshare in Japan. The only place where PS3 will do well is Europe, and it is still being dominated by the Wii. Do you honestly think that the Wii will suddenly stop selling when PS3 is cheaper? Nintendo can't keep up with demand right now, and I don't think Sony will ever get to that point.
Plus, sales of Devil May Cry 4 will be better on 360 than PS3, especially in America, the territory with the strongest sales for the Devil May Cry series. Plus, I think sales will be between 1 and 3, but split 60/40 across the platforms, which means around 1 mil for PS3 version, and 1.5 mil for 360 version.

==> A price drop is never useless except when ur console is already dead.
That is not the case of any of the next-gen console.

last week, PS3 did 50k in NA when the Xbox360 did 80k counting the cheap arcade model (that account for 20% of the sales)
