Forums - Microsoft - Elephant in the room. Wii U name confusing.

Now, there has been a lot thrown around on VGChartz about how the WiiU is a confusing name, and that this would somehow cause people not to buy it. I have not heard a single mention of this in the last little while, I wonder why?

I have always treated this as people assuming that the console they prefer would win, and looking for any 'evidence' that would make this seem more likely. I have always pointed out that adding a letter to the end of an established name is common practice, the iPhone 3GS, 4S and 5S, SNES, Windows XP.

My position on this is NOT changed with the release of the Xbox One. This is not a thread for PS fans to claim that both the WiiU and Xbox One are doomed. I am confident that, as with the Wii U, the One will not be negatively effected by name confusion. The PS1 did fine despite the fact that all old people just called it a "Nintendo". The Xbox did fine despite all old people calling it a Playstation, the WiiU and One will do fine with old people calling them Wii and Xbox.

This is a thread to provide MS fans with a place to apologise for and retract their previous comments about how the WiiU is doomed.

Please don't start this sort of talk. Be better than this. You knew, and I knew, that it was hot air. They probably knew it too. So in the end, they looked silly. Leave it at that.

Take a page from Nintendo's book, and step away from the console war. A thread about the Wii U name, even if in comparison with the Xbox One name, doesn't belong on the Microsoft board.

Names do always sound stupid on release and then get better as you get used to them.

Remember the hate on 'Wii' vs Revolution? 'Kinect' vs Natal?

Amen. Nintendo and Microsoft fans get along well, and sometimes the MS fans might slip with ideas like WiiU's name is confusing but I don't remember hearing it from them *looks at PS fans*

I agree let's turn the other cheek.

Both names are poor. If you want to imply something is similar but better, numbers are good! iPhone1,2,3... PS1,2,3... Wii2 would have been good.
