Correct me if I am wrong, but I got the impression that XBLA games that were released on the 360 won't work on the X1 either (I've read the hardware has a different architecture, so this makes sense). Doesn't this defeat the whole point of "360 owners will upgrade, because they've invested so much time and money into their Xbox Live account"?

A new console generation works like a reset, so every company has to start from 0 again. This is the by far the best time for gamers to jump ship and it seems like Microsoft doesn't even mind if that happens. If the 360 needs to be kept anyway to have access to the digital library of games, then it's not important which brand the new console is from.

didnt nintendo do something similar?

and jump to...?

Wii U is almost 100% backwards compatible. For some reason the first Lost Winds game is an exception.

Jump to any console they wish, because they have to start from scratch on all of them.

my achievements will be transferred into trophies?  does nintendo even have an achievement system yet?  I'm not sure.

my friends will all follow me?

I can use my favoured controller on there?

Halo, forza went multiplat?

edirt... didnt you have to re-buy games for the 3ds? or was that fixed?

The 3DS has been fully backwards compatible from day one.  As far as I know, there are no games that don't work on it.

this is about XBLA, didnt virtual console games have to be re-purchased?

All your DSi games work just fine.  It's like... a 5 minute transfer.

I don't really see any problem with no bc for me atleast.

You didnt answer my question.

What is your question then?  If you want to play any DS games, retail or downloadable, on your 3DS, you don't have to pay anything to do so.  If you're talking about VC games on the Wii U, you don't have to repurchase them.   You CAN pay a dollar or so to add Miiverse functionality/offscreen play and play them on the Wii U menu instead of accessing them from the Wii menu.  However, you can also transfer them for no charge, and play them from the Wii U Menu.

it's a good thing to have BC so that if your console breaks (and they do MS lol you should know) you should be able to play your old games on it and maybe people don't want to take out the old console or buy a new previous gen one when they can do it on the new one

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

I think Mattrick and MS are the ones who are backwards, if that's truly what they believe..

Looks like they really want me to stick with my 360 next generation instead of upgrading. Fine then, so be it.

Disappoint 12% of your userbase with no BC, another 12% with online requirements, another 12% with used game restrictions and sooner or later you're talking about real customers.

Just have a look at installed bases on the main page of this site and knock one of them down by 30%. 20 million units, no big deal, right?

no big deal if your plan is to increase the userbase by 300% with pay tv/cable subsribers .

you don't pay 400mio for some nfl shit that has nothing to do with gaming if you don't have such plans.

Can someone explain to me why Sony gets a free pass on this and not Microsoft?

because Sony choose a wording that wouldn't be outright insulting to anyone who cared about it

"get a second job"

He has been misconstrued anyway.

He is talking about the company, he is talking about Microsoft.  He isnt talking about consumers.

this must be such a hard time for you right now

This response is golden.

4) Then let me put it this way: Your argument only works, if someone cannot possibly live without those franchises.

4. those people exist.

*Divides sales of Halo 4 by installed base*

11% of 360 owners bought Halo 4.

Apparently backwards compatibility is more important to Xbox owners than Halo.

And on the subject of controllers, actually the peer-to-peer WiFi Microsoft is putting in the new Xbox controller sounds almost exactly like the tech in the Wii U gamepad.

Yeah, five percent definitely seems like a statistic that is true and very accurate. No doubt about it.

Add me to that five percent.

Let's not pretend to be offended here. He coined a phrase that he obviously thought sounded good from a word perspective.

I don't think he's calling anyone "backwards" in terms of being mentally incapacitated lol.
