I am student of the San Diego Mesa Community College and a terrible event happened this past monday. Some girl apparently not dealing with the stress of finals week well went to the 4th floor of the library, made a phone call and without any hesitation jumped from the 4th floor and came literally crashing to the bottom floor in front of tons of students and staff. The library is generally crowded all day long. This girl hit the ground so hard that piece of skull broke and brain residue was flung around. I was in the library at that time and thank God I was not there for the visual sight but the sound of her hitting that concrete was comparable to a bomb or shotgun going off. To make matters worst she lived for 15mins after the event. Creep as fuck.
lots screaming, lots of crying, lots of people just standing in place in a weird daze. So we were evaluated quickly and at this point I still had not figured out what happened. I eventually figured it out from a classmate in my art class as she was one of the unfortunate people to see it and its where I found about the messy details. Apparently lots of students drop due to mental stress of seeing that and Mesa even has a counseling center open just for it.Anyway there is a complete media block on the even " to not encourage others to follow", which is understandable, though some people say it may just be Mesa trying to protect their image as a murder happened a City College( part of unified college district with mesa and miramar) a few years ago and the reputation for that school was hurt by it as its the least favorable. They did such a quick clean up job that there are students and staff still finding out today. Seriously, its like it never happened. If someone told me I dreamed this event at this point I may believe them but what really bugs me about this is this girl jumped to supposedly send a message to about how stressful finals week is for full time students and budget cuts and and intuition raises and class cuts and all that... is now sweeped under the rug. Im not saying suicide was the answer because I dont believe in suicide for anything and Im not saying that she was justified in reason because she wasnt, but at least dont let her die in vain if her death really was to send a message. I checked the Mesa web news..nothing detailing the event of anything.
