Forums - Gaming Discussion - Namco on Dark Souls 2 marketing: "treating it as a massive AAA title, would be nice to attract Skyrim players"

Blkfish you sure love pigeons. What if they put a pigeon boss in DS2. Would you be conflicted to slay it? :P

Yes, yes I would be.

Guys for realz adding a lower difficulty wouldn't even make sense. Like would they split the online then for co-op/invasions? Would you have less items being dropped and less souls being given from the easier difficulty? It seriously cannot be done without huge repercussions!

An easier mode could disable invasions.  Problem solved.

What? So we should cater to a few whiners that don't care for invasions?

I don't know how old you guys are in general, but if you recall awhile back in Ultima Online that game got ruined when they removed open world PvP, subscriptions went WAY down. Getting rid of griefing is not a good idea, especially in Dark Souls.

What? So I should cater to a bunch of twinks looking for easy points while trying to enjoy the game?
Or discard all the online functionality and only play offline? Sorry but I'll keep disconnecting when the invasion msg appears, I'm not playing the game for your enjoyment.
There is a reason mmorpgs have separate co-op and pvp servers, or voluntary based pvp.

So you don't enjoy excitment in your game? Because invasions make the blood boil and make it that much more exciting. Besides, you have to consume humanity anyways. If you want to stay offline that's fine with me, but that's rather boring.

Which is why MMORPGS are boring compare to the Ultima Online years. Survival of the fittest was defenitely a better world. Theres should be same safe areas (towns for example) but I'd love to see open PvP.

It's just that simple.

lol, reminds me of WoW.  first me and my friends started on a pvp server.  my friends whined about greifing and convinced me to re-roll on a pve sever with them instead.  we had this one time were we were in arathi highland and a horde guy (we were alliance) started helping us kill our mob and we're like wtf.  then he started tagging ever other mob just before we attacked it so effectively we were grouped with the enemy.

..yeah, we went back to our pvp server the next day.  the pve server was sooo boring like omg that game sucked without the fear of pvp.  yeah, getting ganked from time to time sucked but the best stories i have from WoW typically start with "so we saw this alliance..."  (we played horde on the pvp server).

also, if you really don't want to pvp in dark souls... unplug your internet and play offline.   problem solved.

I was saying not turning human is the more commonly used method. and you can switch from being offline/online. The only thing you'll really miss by playing offline for a little while is PVP(which is what your trying to avoid) and summoning someone.

and the Invasions, online system is prob going to be made better anyway..the dedicated sever is a great step back in the right direction..I'm trying to think more realistically instead of wasting time arguing over a mode that is confirmed to never hit DS2 and likely any future souls game as long as FromSoft is making it.

I have plenty of excitement in games without pvp, that is not exciting to me. I wouldn't call non pvp Everquest servers boring, one of the most punishing games I've played, and most rewarding because of the co-op.
I really don't get the enjoyment people get from killing random strangers. Playing pvp in Lan was fun, but it never held my attention long online.

I don't want to stay off-line. Co-op, helping eachother out, exploring with someone else is great. Random interruptions are not. You get to choose not to do co-op, why can't it simply be the same for pvp... Stick your welcome mat out, and invite random invasions in, same as how co-op works.

Well if it's a demon then it must be vanquished...As a humble knight of Astora I must kill it!

Honestly I feel like an easy mode would rob people of the experience. The Souls series isn't about cheap deaths and frustrations. The developers use the difficulty as a tool to reward the player with a feeling of satisfaction that is hard to find anywhere else. The bleak and dreary world itself seems to put the player in a tense state, yet when you hear the sound of another undead (player) ringing one of the bells you can't help but smile because though you SEEM to be alone in this journey, you really are not. The invasions are just part of that atmosphere.

If someone wanted to play the game online for just the coop but doesn't like invasions, just be hollow.

BTW i'm really excited for Darks Souls 2. I'm playing the first one as I type this. I hope it doesn't deviate too much from what made the series successful.

The only one doing the robbing is yourself if you choose the easy route. If the only way you can enjoy a game is by being forced to enjoy it, you are the one with the problem. Options are as the word suggest, optional.

It doesn't have to be easier anyway. Allowing a better retry option would be sufficient to remove frustration. Better then cheapening out with a Drake sword or Astora's straight sword.

You can't summon people when you are hollow, so that doesn't work if you want to get by a boss in co-op.

Well, if no one enjoys the Series for what it is then too bad then. Honestly there's no point arguing, how about trying an ill fated petition?
