Today I accidentally walked with WiiU pad into the area in my flat where I never got connection. So I was amazed that everything worked this time!!! Is it possible that latest update increased WiiU pad range???

Really? Let me check real quick.
Games can and should tell stories and share ideas through their mechanics. This is the intrinsic element of the medium and this is how experiences should be crafted in video games. No company does this as well as Nintendo and their echoes from the past.

Could just be a variable in the environment. Like an appliance that was running before isn't anymore.
But yeah, I imagine a firmware update could improve the reliability of the Wii U's tablet's wifi connection.

mmm, never heard of it, but would be sweet to play in my brother's room. That way we don't have to move console every time.
Gonna try after work. How much of a difference (in meters or anything) is there?
I just checked - and I think you're right. When I first got my Wii U I set it up in the family room downstairs. The gamepad never worked in my room which led to disappointment on my part since I was looking forward to playing on the gamepad in my bed without moving the system. I just tested it in my room and it works fine now - I played several levels of Kirby's Adventure in my bed.

I'd say 2–3 meters more... Hard to say exactly - its an old strong walls in the house I live...
What is funny too, that the source which told about 'overclocking' of WiiU cpu/gpu also mentioned increased pad range after last update...

I can't imagine an update could improve the WiFi range.
You know, on my wifi router a have an option in the settings where I can change the power of wifi signal from 10% to 100%. If its possible with a router, why is it not possible in a WiiU?
