That article makes it sound like WoW is dying. It's FAR FAR from it. No other MMORPG even close close to it in playerbase. Not even free to play titles.

Runes of Magic should be pretty close right now

Based on what?

maybe the number of active users?

On August 16, 2010, after the launch of chapter III, they announced that Runes of Magic had exceeded four million registered u

if that number continue to grow.... then maybe it is close to WoW numbers? but the profit is very wide... i think

Bsed on the fact that WoW is estimated to have a userbase of 6-7Mil right now while RoM had 4Mil users 2010 and been growing. Of course there is no certainity, but it definately is possible.

So 8 million people pay $12 a month still? I do not know what it costs to maintain an MMO, but seems like still raking in money hand over fist with ridiculous numbers like that.

Can't wait until the standard is pushed under a rug when something new and fresh comes.

Not that WoW created the standard, it only streamlined it...but god everything about it is so fucking terrible and a plague to the industry as a whole.

i think this thread will die without anyone defending WoW

why are the WoW players here are so burried deep in their closet?

That's easy same as vita owners denial. Only difference is wow is a decent game to play where as vita owners defend their system cause there is nothing to do on it..........

I was trapped in wow for 7 years but in that time I managed to get married and have a child my son; however, after wrath of the pitch king everything went down hill fast. If wow dropped the price of subscriptions I would sign up again even if i barely played(5$ a month from 15$). They make stupid money from server transfers and buying up pets or mounts they don't need to charge 15$ a month. Then again if they released a decent xpac instead of this jack black and the furious 5 nonsense it may have been a better game.

I am really wondering what will happen, when they turn off the swicht ?

some people are real addic no fun addic fun batshit addict heroin thingy.

There is no reason to flip a switch in the near future. If if the game dropped to a million subs it could still be a profitable mmo. The problem is blizzard gets you at every turn in that game. I'm surprised they haven't made a diablo or Starcraft mmo

My Pokemon Trading Shop (Hidden Power Breeding)

Very much expected. I still play WoW, but I have only been playing about half the time as I used to due to Blizzard. Honestly they could have kept up the numbers if they still catered to the same fanbase from BC. They said that a bunch of casuals abandoned them as well. So even though they were catering to the casual, the casual has moved on to other games like LoL and Dota 2.

If anything, userbase must have decreased by now. You really think the userbase of an old F2P MMO doubled? Its highly unlikely.

BTW, WoW has 8.3m subscribers accoridng to this article.

@aiko
4million registered users doesn't exactly mean 4million active players. In reality, the number would be much lower.
