No, they can still generate enough revenue (more actually) than being F2P at this point. I mean, Everquest and Asheron's Call are still running to this day after all, at this point World of Warcraft will be forever profittable because they are way past breaking even.

I don't think so, but they can co-exist, for example, you get more exp and station cash perks if you subscribe to Planetside 2 instead of playing for free, basically makes you get what you want faster. They do the same thing for LoTRO where many restrictions are lifted.

That article makes it sound like WoW is dying. It's FAR FAR from it. No other MMORPG even close close to it in playerbase. Not even free to play titles.
