Nintendo not holding traditional E3 press conference this year?
Coming from Iwata...

"At this years E3 we will not be announcing a new hardware system, so E3's primary mission will be to have [press, analysts] experience our software. Many people would like to know more about the titles for Wii U that will be announced. We will use the timing of E3 to focus on providing details about our Wii U titles for release this year, and intend to create opportunities for guests to the conference to experience them immediately. We will attempt to use this year's E3 to make announcements in a new way that we have not tried before.

Unlike previous years, we will not have a large-scale [E3] presentation directed to everyone in the world. Instead, we are planning several smaller events focusing on software for America. Among these hands-on events will be one for American distributors and another for western media."

Wow, talk about a major surprise for E3, and not the kind we wanted to see. I'm not sure I 100% believe this yet. We'll have to get comment from Nintendo.

Nintendo to focus on Wii U’s 2013 games at E3

April 24th, 2013 Posted in General Nintendo, News, Posted by Valay, Wii U

Update: To clarify – Nintendo isn’t ditching E3 as a whole. It sounds like there won’t be a traditional conference, but they’ll still have a presence at the trade show. The media and analysts will be given a chance to try out upcoming games, for example.

A good portion of Nintendo’s Wii U titles confirmed for E3 are already known to the public. Mario’s 3D debut, Mario Kart, and Smash Bros. are among the games to be featured in some fashion.

Satoru Iwata commented briefly on Nintendo’s E3 plans during an investors meeting earlier today. Along with statements suggesting that a traditional press conference won’t be held, Iwata told attendees that the expo will be used as an opportunity to reveal details about Wii U games coming this year. Additionally, he cryptically said that Nintendo “will attempt to use this year’s E3 to make announcements in a new way that we have not tried before.”

Mega Nintendo Direct! 1-2 hours long!

Well, they have to go up against 2 companies with new systems and next gen software. Not exactly surprising, but kinda sad. I like watching all the conferences.

I've been expecting this for a while. They are really good at Nintendo Directs and really bad at E3, so it's pretty clear which is the priority.

Yay! What the WiiU needed! Less exposure! -_-

The article is extremely misleading, and short after that was published a new article was put out.

They will be at E3 and will have a conference, I don't get how two extremely opposite things were posted.

My guess is that they have pretty much thrown their next bullets for the next months already through those Nintendo Directs.

Perhaps in whatever they are working right now that has not been announced is too far off from releasing that it wouldn't be appropriate for showing at the moment.

They must be on a strategy to spread their first party games throughout the months to have steady releases. Perhaps Nintendo fans should make do with the idea that what has been already announced is what they'll get for now.

SIG2 (2) Week 1

I earned "Proof of Omega", killed the FF7 Weapons, attained "Big Boss" in the "Patriots", found and killed the Red Chocobo in FFXII, platinumed Killzone 2 and LBP. What you got bitch!? Huh?

This is bull. Ppl are less and less talking about the big3 and start talking of the big2. If Ninty does'nt have a press conference that is the start of things getting worst.

I was hoping for a press event like always, where we will see MK, Mario3D, smash and a few surprises at E3 and I was hyped. If this is true, I no longer have anything to look forward, just some random Nintendo Direct that we never know when they are going and never know if they will suck or not. Odds are that all these games could be announced in different Nintendo Directs.

This is lame, I wanted a giant event, not a few random smaller ones. I could have taken that news a better way if that giant event that I was expecting was'nt in a month. Worst is, at E3, we will see other console/game news everywhere, fanboys of other consoles will rejoice and brag while we Ninty fan have nothing.

This sucks so much. You'd think Nintendo might have learned from their mistakes.

Meh. Let's have the system with the healthy SW lineup as high priority. Let's skip the biggest event of the year that COULD give us good publicity if we play our cards right.

Screw ND. They are effective for Nintendo fans, but E3 is the place to redeem themselves to potential customers and that should be place to have our nice announcements. It's as if they are trying to alienate themselves from the media altogether.

Maybe it would have been better if Iwata had been let go. And cut Miyamoto's creative output and decision weight considerably.
