Forums - Politics Discussion - Republicans holding us hostage yet again.

It's impossible for Social Security to go broke as long as there are more employed americans than retirees. The social security trust fund isn't the utility used to fund SS, it's just additional funds. If you don't know how the program works you should probably just refrain from commenting at all.

Boehner admitted on NBC that there "is no immediate debt crisis." He actually said this. Then he goes and prolongs this pathetic, joke of a republican tactic to generate fear in uneducated americans. The debt crisis isn't an immediate problem, it's a problem but not something that needs to be focused on during the midst of a horrific global economic crisis that will probably last another 6yrs.

Austerity isn't working for the Eurozone. It's OBVIOUSLY not working when you come to the realization that Europe is going into a double dip recession. Germany was better off than other European countries, it didn't experience the same fallout. Using Germany to justify austerity (which is obviously failing) is just stupid. You look like a fool who doesn't know what he/she is talking about.

Balanced budgets don't meant anything. America has run on deficits for a very long time, the economy actually functions on a small deficit. That is the goal, a small deficit. Nobody is signing any clinton-era "balanced budgets." One balanced budget doesn't do anything if the year after we go back to deficits. That is our reality.

Yeah, so these political threads are pretty sad. It's like fox news threw up in here lol. Good Luck!

I just ignore KASZ because his facts are useless and he uses his power to shield himself. This site is full of people that don't understand Economics at all. I laugh at most of their replies. People of this site are just horribly informed. He always answers back to me and always disagree's and than uses Rush Limbaugh facts to prove his points. Better yet he uses Koch brother research. He has used it alot and I called him on it. However I  get banned for even talking to the guy.

User was banned for this post and several others - Kantor

Republicans are the only thing saving us from Obama. God bless them.

The failed to save us from GW Bush, so not sure where God blessing that organization will come into play at all.  Then again, I guess depending on your slant, you may not think GW was all that bad.  Except for me, my slide to tbe bottom began with him in office.

Anyhow, will see how things go.  Having the government functions halved will have a much larger impact.  And will see how much the American public goes for it.  The GOP will fully get blamed for it most likely.

First off, I totally agree that no one on this site understands anything lol. But you don't even need to understand economics to "get" the issue. Just shut your mouth for 2 seconds and listen to someone who actually KNOWS what they're talking about.

Post after post is just people basing their argument on their political leanings. It's all inductive, a opposed to deductive. It's so obvious too. That's why I laugh at so many of these threads. So much nonsense.

"Republicans are the only ones protecting us from Obama."  ...Rhodes Scholar that guy is lol.

Thread title is extremely ignorant of the actual situation. lol. Not to mention whoever wrote this article is clearly a member of the Democratic Party or at the very least an extremely biased person who writes care-free with a deliberate leftist slant.

source is thinkprogress.org lol... should say alot

Definitely need the opposite site of think progress. I think it is called feelregression.com .

How about the fact that "leftist" shouldn't even be in a 21st century political vocabulary lol. You shouldn't even be saying that word if you don't know how to use it in the proper context.

Leftist refers to Marx, Castro, Chavez, Mao, Stalin and Lenin. It doesn't apply to american democrats, who you're obviously trying to demonize. Let me guess... you heard it on fox news. Where else would you hear it but right-wing media lol.

You do realize the next Democratic nominee for president is going to be left of Karl Marx.  At least that is how the rhetoric goes.  If Obama is as much left as he is spun to be, the next Democratic nominee for president is going to have to be left of Marx.

LOL obama uses all republican ideas from the 80's. Lol You don't even know who marx is. Obama is a moderate Republican. So what s your proof? NOTHING! FOX news told me to say that.

When are the American people going to wake up and realize that these two parties have failed them? There are other choices, much better ones. In reality, the Democrats and Republicans aren't all that different. They both want to infringe on your freedoms. Republicans want to go after your personal freedom while Democrats want to go after your financial freedom. They are both spenders. The Democrats will cut something like the defense budget and spend more on other useless things while the Republicans would cut a lot of the budget and increase defense spending at the same time. Both parties believe in Government handouts. The difference is the Democrats would give out free stuff to the American people (some who deserve it, many who don't), while the Republicans will tell the Americans they don't need handouts while giving billions of dollars to other countries around the world and paying the defense budget for many countries by acting as their military. Then of course there's the nation building. Both parties are full of liars and hipocrytes. They say they believe in one thing and then turn around and do sometihng else. It's time for a chnage.

Here's a few small steps to cutting the budget and bringing some income to the US:

- End the war on drugs. It's a failed policy that has only made things worse. It's a failed policy that has cost this country nearly $1 trillion dollars since the Nixon Administration enated it.

- Legalize marjiuana and regulate it like alcohol. Also, legalize prostitution. It may be immoral to some people, but like drugs, it won't go away does more harm being illegal than legal.

- Stop giving money to countries who don't like the US. Buying friendship is a failed policy. Who certain politicians of other countries may like the the US, the people do not.

- Get out of Afghanistand assoon as possible. There's nothing more we can do for them. If they can't back on their feet at this point, then there is no hope for them.

- Reduce the military presence in Europe. The Cold War has been over for more than 20 years. Russia will not invade Europe. They have enough of their own problems to deal with. They may act like bullies, but they aren't the same threat they once were. If Euope feels differently, then let them build up their own military to assure their defences.

- Reduce the military presence in Asia. Some say China is becoming a threat to countries like Japan and South Korea. If that's true, then let Japan and South Korea defend themselves.

Again, these are just some of the ways that America can handle it's financial situation. Obviously, there are a lot of domestic issues to deal with as well. I'm not an isolationist by any means, but I do think the US should stop pretending like the Cold never ended.

TS stop being such a lemming, both parties are screwing us over. It's really ingenious in an evil way how the Politicians have been playing Americans against one another. Instead of going after them for being corrupt we argue non-stop amongst ourselves while they rake in the cash and do nothing to improve the general welfare of the country.

This country really needs to unite against the real problem which is the politicians. Lobbyism should be illegal, term limits should be put in place for Congress, no pensions for elected officials (Public Servants xD), more time spent doing their jobs just like the rest of us, same healthcare as the rest of us (let them pay for their own elitist healthcare), & real consequences for not doing their job like most people.

I'd assume that we all want to have a country where we could have the opportunity to be successful if we put in the effort. A country where someone that is middle/lower class could actually afford to buy a home and raise a family at some point if that's what they desired. We should encourage constructive conversation in order to reach common goals rather than contributing to the endless strife that is cause by constantly arguing with and insulting others.
