Forums - Sony Discussion - Final Fantasy XV will be exclusive on PS4. Sony co-developing - rumour

This game, when all is said and done, would have costs upwards of 100 million to do. Square Enix will not want to limit themselves on PS4 to recoup their costs as they will not be able to. If ever if it is exclusive, it will be timed (1 year), much like the Tales games that appeared on the 360 first, only to appear on the PS3 with exclusive content a year later.

In essence, this game will be multi-platform. It is fake.

If there ever was a game that made absolutly no sense to be timed exclusive it would be this game. Also, 100mil? Bullshit number made up. SE would recoop that in Japan alone.

Well, at least that makes me have higher hopes that the game will release within the next five years *and* they might actually occasionally show gameplay at press events!

If I were being hopeful, I would also hope that they take the gameplay in a new direction. Turn based combat (and even the newer turn based combat like FFXIII had) is just outdated. In 1996 you couldn't have characters flip around and do awesome stuff, in 2013 you can. It just makes it so bad when you put something like, say, FFXIII and Uncharted next to each other where you're actually doing the crazy stuff.

Versus has always been an action RPG. Did you watch the 2011 trailer?

Anyway, we'll see...

Well, a bad action game that I'll be amazed if it's ever actually released.  Or, well, bad might not be the best word but something that just looks painfully generic and not that exciting.

With Sony's help we can hope they can actually make a *good* action game.

Like I said, if true, this could be good news, but there are A LOT of ifs.

  • IF SE can stop with the crappy emo protagonist crap.
  • IF SE can actually provide a good story and good characters.
  • IF SE will actually accept Sony's help on how to make an action game and not some really bad hybrid or some generic attempt.

i don't know how much time it took you to write this wall of a story but it was brilliant! :D I loved it and you need to post more i really like your reasoning and style, not only in this post but in others as well. Cheers

Thanks man, I appreciate it. If only Sony would do an E3 like that. Took me about 10 min to write it. But we all know, they won't do that. There will be a lot yadayada about games we already know about. First the PS3 ones, Beyond, Puppeteer, Rain. Then some Move bullshit, and Until Dawn. Then Vita, with AC and Killzone and Tearaway. The PS4 with Killzone, Infamous, Knack and DriveClub. And at the end, they probably announce Uncharted 4. That will be it. Oh, and price. Lets hope its not 600.

VgLeaks is actually a sorta reliable source. If this is true then I'm glad. It's obvious that Square Enix couldn't handle HD and multiplatform development. Hopefully going back to exclusive releases will make for better games on a more timely manner.

If true, then good for Sony. Tho I wish they kept the "versus" name, I thought that sounded cool.

I dont know... I think there's still a place in gaming for true turn-based games and I definitely wouldn't want to see them go the way of the dodo.  Makes me a little sad that the sales just don't justify the big-budget JRPG blockbusters like they used too.  FFX and DQVIII are among my top games of the last three generations (FFIV and Earthbound before that), and the thing that I like most about all of them is that they are strictly turn-based.  I think developers are taking the right steps to take out some of the frustrations for the general public - ie.  FFX, manually having to have Rikku steal from every enemy; FFXII, setting up a gambit to steal automatically.  Not having to consistently micro-manage all members of the party was a big step, but take too much out of the core system and you end up with FFXIII (which was panned for being so untraditional).

With all that said, I love Nomura and the Kingdom Hearts series, so if Versus does end up becoming FFXV I'm sure there will be plenty of oppurtunities for you to do some crazy awesome stuff.

It's all about the game.

Look at sales of Final Fantasy this generation. If I had to describe it, I would say "The Fall of Final Fantasy". I'm sure Square Enix has noticed that the Final Fantasy has not only dimished in quality but in sales. They have to do something to turn this around and going back to what always made Final Fantasy games so hyped and successful is a great idea. I hope Final Fantasy is exclusive to PS4, at least the mainline games.

Isn't it weird that there still isn't a real Final Fantasy game on the 3DS despite how successful it is in Japan but there's a Vita version of FFX coming? There's definitely some Sony/SquareEnix partnership going on here because this just doesn't make sense business-wise.

Final Fantasy X development costs were confirmed to be 33 million during the PS2 era. Compared to the SD era, HD games development costs have more than doubled. Furthermore, this game has been in production for over 6 years - time, money and resources were allocated to the project nonetheless. In the end, with development costs, marketing, luminous engine and production, the game will have had a budget of 100 million. It's common sense.

And no, SE will not be able to recoup these costs in Japan alone. Your theory is flawed and without merit.

FF15 will sell 1.5m in Japan 1st week at the minimum. They already had FF13 at $70 and they could easily bump it to $80. Also, DD has become even bigger since FF13 and they would cut out a bunch of cost associated with retail copies which increases profit.

Also, just because FF10 cost 33m and costs have more than doubled doesn't mean FF15 will be more than doubled FF10 costs... thats just a very naive and simplistic thought.

Lastly, it hasn't been in development for 6 years. SE stopped development and shifted resources to FF13-2 and FF13-LR
