PS4 Includes 500GB Hard Drive, DualShock 4 Is $60

by Mike Bendel on June 10, 2013 @ 8:43 pm

A tidbit that went unmentioned at Sony’s press conference was the size of the internal hard drive in PS4. That’s now confirmed to be 500GB according to an SCEI press release that just hit the wires. It’s good to hear Sony didn’t skimp on HDD capacity, given that digital downloads are becoming an increased focused these days.

Additionally, the price of an extra DualShock 4 controller will set you back $60 at MSRP. This represents a bit of a premium on the peripheral side over previous generations, though we suppose the extra tech in the PS4 controller such as the touch pad may warrant it.

DayZ set to arrive on PS4, but could skip Xbox One

Dean Hall has suggested that his standalone version of Arma 2 mod DayZ, intended for PC and next gen consoles, might not be released on Xbox One due to publishing and patching restrictions.

Microsoft does not allow indies to self publish and charges for patches, while on PS4, issuing a patch is free, and indies can publish titles themselves, says Hall.

“We’re happy to see DayZ on any console but there is a… I guess one problem,” Hall told us. “The console needs to not charge for us to do updates and it needs to be indie title friendly.”

When asked whether Microsoft and Sony are still charging for patches, Hall replied: “As far as I’m aware, Microsoft is, Sony’s not. And Sony allows you to self-publish. But who knows? Maybe Microsoft will change. From our perspective, we need self-publishing because DayZ would be a great digital download title.”

Hall added that Sony’s free patching policy is preferable because there are a lot of bugs in DayZ. “It’s gonna take a long time for us to be able to iron this out and we don’t wanna have to be paying ten, twenty thousand dollars – whatever it is – every time we wanna do an update.”

Hall’s remarks here echo Phil Fish’s decision not to patch Fez last year, as it would cost his studio “tens of thousands of dollars.”

PS4 PlayStation Plus Details: Cross Game Chat doesn’t require the service

By Alex Schmitz on June 22, 2013

We have some new details on PS Plus for the PS4. It will be required to play online but not for free-to-play games or MMOs. One subscription will grant access to all accounts on that system.

Cross game chat and other media functions won’t require the subscription. This includes services like Netflix.

Games will be added and removed just like the current subscription on PS3 and you will be getting one new PS4 game every month. It’s not clear whether it would be a PS Plus edition like DriveClub which has altered content.

The subscription isn’t required for automatic updates. It will cost $50 or $5 per month. It’s something you pay for PS Plus already on PS3 so it really isn’t a surprise.

The PS4 will be released sometime later this year and according to some retailer listings in Europe, it could be out on November 13. However, Sony has said that it’s just a placeholder date.

Anyone know if ps4 will support multiple id sign ins like the 360 did? I know ps3 didn't have this feature but on 360 a friend could bring his profile round or download it and play and unlock things.

Quite embarrassing how ps3 could not do this so ps4 must!
