Forums - Sony Discussion - David Jaffe Responds To Sensationalist CNN Anchor

This is the video that Jaffe is responding to. CNN news anchor Erin Burnett believes that video games cause violence.

Dear  : you, ma'am, are at best an idiot that  should be ashamed to have as an anchor. At worst, you are the worst kind of American: one who has allowed the healthy desire for success to morph into a capitalistic cancer that makes it ok to ignore the facts in order to make your product more appealing, regardless of the consequences. To make matters worse, your own views about video games- which you seem to have no problem sharing with your hundreds of thousands of viewers- clearly have not been formed by any actual research or real life experience with the medium.

I am sure you will think yourself quick and insightful when you tell me- a video game director/designer accusing someone from another industry of making products for profit regardless of consequence- that I am the pot and you are the black kettle. However, if you actually listened to your guests and read the studies (aka if you actually did some....some....hmmm, what's that word you journalists have for it? Oh right: RESEARCH!) you would see you are wrong; you would see there remains- after years of studies- zero evidence of video games with violent subject matter causing real life violence.

On the flip side- you know: YOUR side- there is very real evidence that our society suffers greatly when our news media fails to properly inform the public.

The fact that you think a guy who 'trains'* on a shooting video game would be granted the skill to horrifically, tragically kill those CHILDREN in Norway only serves to show how little research you do before you open your mouth in front of your world wide audience under the guise of delivering news. I'm not sure what makes your argument look more ignorant: the fact that you don't back up your idiotic statement by showing a correlation to the current health of America's agriculture sector with the popularity of Farmville OR the fact that the sick, deranged evil loser who killed those poor kids in Norway had picked such a poor 'training' tool that after 700 hours of play, he was only capable of hitting little kids with his bullets versus the well armed pretend terrorists and highly skilled virtual soldiers that he was battling in the game.
Shame on you. But more importantly: shame on your profession. It deserves so much better.**

David

*'Train' is such a stupid, irresponsible verb that you- without a shred of guilt- chew into with relish and repeat over and over because you know it helps sell your false story.

** I know journalism deserves better than you because I really love Sorkin's The Newsroom plus I saw Broadcast News back in high school at least 5 times (I had a crush on Holly Hunter- so sue me!) which means- in your world- I must have the equivalent of a journalism degree from Columbia plus a few years experience working for The Washington Post (back in the 70's, I mean, when it was really something special). So because of that, I know you will trust me when I tell you that you are not right for your current job and that you should quit and go try to be on something like The View or try to act in a movie or some such.

Thank you David Jaffe. We need more of this, i'm not a super liberal person, but the Republicans are going bonkers to find a scapegoat. Address the problem, don't try to attack something that has been shown time and time again to not cause violence. It's a disgrace.  And this women disgusts me, the man she was speaking to consistently said that they won't cause gun violence, but she just had to keep bringing up her own ignorant agenda.

Thank you David Jaffe, for standing up for games, gamers, and developers.

Do you know that REALLY grinds my gears though? The fact that they're so quick to blame video games and ignore all other forms of media!!! If you're going to throw video games under the bus, you have to include films, music, and even books/magezines. I've seen movies that involve chopping off fingers and feeding them to children! The ignorance of people to ignore all other forms of media and use video games as the sole scapegoat aggrivates me.

I though exactly this. The fact of the matter is, there are movies and books that put the most violent video game TO SHAME, and yet people fear what they don't understand. Gaming is a huge industry, but it's enjoyed by pretty specific people. There are a lot of people who have never played a game. It's ridiculous how ignorant they can be though. My blood boils a little bit when I watch videos like this.

Anyone who likes Aaron Sorkin's drivel is a million times worse than Erin Burnett, whose upturned nose at least makes her bratty looking and therefore fuckable.

Neither the gun nor the video game caused these crazy bastards to go on killing spree's.

I really hope she is smart enough to know who this is instead of thinking it's a crazy internet nerd proving her point.

I like how they show how this legislation will have an effect on gun makers, showing how much money they may end up losing and jobs being cut; I wonder why they didn't show what would happen if they placed a ban on violent games. I'm pretty sure the gaming/movie industry would be affected on a much larger scale than gun makers.

A side note about guns. It's my opinion that we should have the ability to defend our homes with or without guns. However, there is no reason we need to carry weapons outside of our homes for any reason unless hunting, going to a shooting range, or for a militia need. Also I don't see a need to have semi or fully automatic weapons for any other reason then for military. That being said there are far to many under 18yr old people playing or have access to play violent games, this issue needs to be addressed and corrected. I am in no way claiming videogames have any effect on us but we shouldn't allow children to play cod GTA type of games. Again my two cents

Remember that GTA mission when you kill a prostitute and win points for it? I don´t.

My grammar errors are justified by the fact that I am a brazilian living in Brazil. I am also very stupid.
