Forums - Politics Discussion - America has done enough for the Environment!

this is the funniest thread ive seen here all week - possibly all time. if you actually believe what you wrote im genuinly sorry.

I think it is important for countries to do as much as they can to protect the environment, but I also think that countries should not base any policies on junk science to appease activist organizations.

When i went to florida i saw no evidence of any enviromental practises. That was back in 2005 though so may have changed.

There is nothing that I notice. But really, the only bad thing (that I know of) that affects the enviroment in Florida is traffic. And there is a lot of that. (Especially on I-4.)

I would put it this way.

1) America has done almost nothing for the environment.

2) America should do almost nothing for the environment. Things like global warming are inherently unavoidable even if the US were to suddenly vanish from the face of the earth.

The world wants cheap energy too much, hell the world NEEDS cheap energy too much.

Take care of the local enviroment?  Sure.  Anything like global warming that requires a world joint effort?   All you are doing is giving up economic growth for a vague sense of false satisifaction with zero actual benefit to the enviorment, since it's been shown that any hydrocarbons we don't burn... someone else will.

No matter America, your about to retire soon, then you can enjoy the last bastions of your empire, and be witness to the birth of a new global super power, China. Everyone will then hold China to the standards America seems to be tired with. It's time to pass the crown mis Universe to your successor :)

Disappointed in Canada, but proud of my Romanian's lol.

I was walking down along the street and I heard this voice saying, "Good evening, Mr. Dowd." Well, I turned around and here was this big six-foot rabbit leaning up against a lamp-post. Well, I thought nothing of that because when you've lived in a town as long as I've lived in this one, you get used to the fact that everybody knows your name.

Obvious sarcastic thread is obvious.
In case you were serious: American factories pump out more Co2 into the atmosphere than every country in the world combined not named China. American still beats China itself in Co2 pollution.

Yeah disappointed in Canada too, but we're the largest supplier of oil now to the US. Digging up all the oil sands causes a lot of the growth in emissions. We can't simply cut off those energy hungry neighbours, they have too many guns!

Already 75% of our electricity is from clean sources, but that 25%, plus the long distances, plus the cold, plus digging up more and more oil sands. If only we would invest all the profits from oil sands into developing a hydrogen fuel cell economy based on nuclear fusion...
Well we have a Clean energy dialogue with the states and ooh action plans. Tiny baby steps sigh.
CHFCA: BC Transit's fleet of 20 fuel cell buses is the largest fleet of its kind in the world. baby steps.

What was the problem?

I always thinknwe should do what we can, but when everything cost more and makes things more difficult it gets annoying real quick.

The main problem I saw was mass consumption and throw away anything that was surplus. I didnt see any sign of recyling. Where I live recycling is easy. The bin men collect non recyclable to go to landfill and the recycling collectors will collect Metal, paper, cardboard, batteries, all electrical items , food is composted shoes, glasses, glass , plastic at no extra cost. Its cheaper to recycle than put into landfill due to the taxes on landfill site. Also American cars have such large engines which use so much petrol. Smallwr engines use less fuel go further and use less fuel so saves oil and money.
