Personally I think it is ridiculous getting that sort of stuff for kids so young but to each their own I suppose. Or is it really a present for yourself that you had to say was for the child? I understand the movie point of view but couldn't you have just got a stand alone hard drive that you hook up to the tv? |
Nah. She doesn't have or even want a phone. She got a cheap laptop last year, though (with firewalls in place by yours truly!) and she spends a fair amount of monitored time on it. She watches a lot of youtube, plays flash games, etc. The laptop never leaves the house and she doesn't have an MP3 player so I've been putting movies and music on her PSP for the last couple of years. With the Nexus 7, she can have all of the benefits of a laptop at home and when we're on the road (which is quite a bit), she'll have her movies and music to keep her entertained. Plus, it will keep her from killing my phone playing Angry Birds. She likes recording herself singing and making slide shows on the 3DS, too. Figure she'll find some cool stuff to keep her busy with the tablet, too. Personally, I'm just happy with a phone when I'm on the go and a PC when I'm home.

Ah yes I forgot about using it when on the road. Hadn't thought about it from that angle. Guess I just over reacted. Know someone that wanted to buy a 4 year old a tablet. That was ridicolous. I shall leave with my tail between my legs now, as you were.

Lol! I wasn't offended by it. She's got a rich cousin that's one year older than her and he was getting stuff like a PS3 for Christmas in 2006 (hell, he got a 360 when he was five! And it hasn't RRoD'd, YET! WTF?) a year before I even got one and I used to think the same thing: "Why is this kid getting this adult stuff!?" It used to be a bit of a friendly competition to see which kid got the better Christmas but now, I'm just trying to get her something that she'd love and she's really into geeky tech stuff (and, like me, she also likes comic books, video games, pro-wrestling, stuffed animals, etc). Anyway, no harm done.
