Microsoft Announces Industrial Alliance With China Unicom to push Windows Phone smartphones in China
Microsoft has announced an industrial alliance with China Unicom which is world’s third main mobile service provider. This alliance is named as Windows Industry Alliance and will help Microsoft (MSFT) to boost up the sales of its Windows Phone based smartphones in Chinese Market.
Microsoft presently holds just 3% of Chinese smartphone market whereas Android holds 72% of the market. Microsoft (MSFT) is also planning to bring new Windows Phone devices to the Chinese market thorough this alliance with China Unicom. This is yet another serious step of Microsoft to compete with Apple and Google in mobile market.

Kevin Turner, Microsoft Chief Operating Officer gave a statement to a news channel saying, “China is the No. 1 market worldwide in terms of PC, tablet, mobile and Internet users. It is a very exciting place. We believe there is a great opportunity across the country to provide new business models to partners, new technologies to developers and best services to customers.”
Microsoft has some great hopes with this alliance as China Unicom is world’s third biggest mobile network service provider. The 3G network of China Unicom will supposedly boost Windows Phone 8 powered devices sale.
According to the Microsoft professionals, Windows Phone 8 is the latest operating system from Microsoft which uses the same kernel used in PC version of Windows 8 OS. This latest platform of Microsoft can operate and sync across desktops, laptop, tablets and phones flawlessly. Microsoft’s alliance with China Unicom will help Microsoft promoting more of its products running on Windows OS both on PCs and Smartphones.
Lu Yimin, General Manager China Unicom said in a press conference in Beijing that China Unicom is third largest mobile carrier and has more than 70 million subscribers for its 3G network will promote the Windows products.
Microsoft launched its new range of Windows devices including Tablet PCs, Smartphones and Ultrabooks in this press conference. This alliance of Microsoft and China Unicom will allegedly bring some good to Nokia with its Windows Phone 8 series of Lumia smartphones.
