Forums - PC Discussion - Would a PC like this be able to run the latest games for awhile?

Good enough?

You don't need that much (specify please) 3 27.27%

Looks about right 3 27.27%

Should be good for now, b... 1 9.09%

Not powerful enough 4 36.36%

Total:11

That PC is ridiculously overpriced.

You can run the latest games on high settings and 1080p resolution for a while with an 800 dollar PC.

Essentially to run games at high settings and 1080p and 60 fps which is considered "max" for 90% of the people out there you need:

3570k - $200
8GB of RAM - $40
Any Z77 mobo with SLI/crossfire - $120
Decent mid tower case - $60
GTX 660Ti/HD7870 - $250
700W PSU - $80
Windows 8 - 14.99-99 dollars (depending on how savy you are)

This setup + another video card in 2 years will max any game out for at least 4-5 years.

Add a 128 GB SSD for 90 bucks but skip on the disk drive. They are pretty much useless IMO.

That PC is really over priced. Shoot for a $1000 budget. Yes a SSD is well worth it, helps load times significantly

I currently own 4 PC's and 2 of them can play games at "max". One is an HTPC and one is a server so I'll leave those out of the picture as they are not meant for gaming...but between the two gaming PC's, the price difference vs performance is quite remarkable.

Rig 1 cost me around 1500 dollars and has 3570k, EVGA FTW quad SLI mobo, GTX 670, 8 GB RAM, 2 SSD's, H80 water cooler, full tower...etc

Rig 2 cost me 600 dollars (all Black friday sale deals) and has Phenom X4 965, budget SLI mobo, GTX 660, 8 GB ram, 180 GB SSD.

On a standard monitor with VSYNC on both offer pretty much equal performance. However on a 120 hz monitor, the 1500 dollar PC shows who is boss as it's able to offer me 100-120 fps in most games. For regular monitor users, anything over 60 is just a waste.

An SSD is one of the best things you can buy as it speeds up general tasks as well as loading in games, installing etc.

it's not necessary however. I love my SSD's, the main thing it does is speed up loading times, boot time. After that it's loaded in the RAM. In some games it reduces loading times tremendesously.  However if you like to smoke a bong while the loading screen is going, getting an ssd might be not ideal. :).

True. And sometimes loading screens contain important gameplay tips and hints so you might miss them with an SSD ;o

Lol. Shows that you can make an argument for just about anything...

That thing is way too overpriced. I nearly finished a PC with almost the same specs for roughly $500

like ordering parts individually and assembling yourself, or did you get it all at once?  Honestly guys this is the first one I looked at and I'm not paying nearly that much just wanted to know on the specs.

Yea ordering the parts myself.

Here are my parts:

CPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103996  $95

MB: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813138348  $80

Graphics Card: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814127683  $60

RAM:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231460  $50

PSU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817182200  $50

Case:  http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153  $50

The only thing I have to order is a hard drive which is going to be an SSD probably 80GB which run about $50 or so.   I got the CPU and PSU on sale, so when I you add all of that plus the hard drive it comes to about $435 plus about $20 for all of the shipping and probably another $20 for the taxes.  I can't remember the exact shipping and taxes on each item, so that comes to about $475.  Now some of things I already have like a monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc. which I didn't see if those were included on that PC you were looking at.  So yea I'd say that one is pretty expensive.  I didn't look to in depth on the specs but just looking at the processor and peripherals it seems overpriced.

O and 32GB memory is way overkill, since most games don't require over 8 GB.
