Forums - Nintendo Discussion - ZombiU Has "Generally Favorable reviews" on Metacritic - Stop All Red Steel Comparisons

Ok, I know I will regret this... but according to metacritic the game is AS GOOD (or as bad) as PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale

Comparisons to Red Steel aren't completely unfounded, but ZombiU comes out on the positive side of every comparison. I still kind of want to try Red Steel, and both 1 & 2 are obscenely affordable used.

The second one is very good, the plot is kind of thin and a little short specially because there is no replayability, but the controls are very well executed and the environment/setting is nice and interesting.

Red Steel is massively undertracked here, it sell more than 1 million. If my memory don't fail, I think it almost sell 2 million copies. I don't know why 1 or 2 years ago, vgchartz changed the numbers (maybe a mistake). Excite Trucks and GT Pro Series are in the same situation. (Excite Trucks was at 0.91 and GT Pro Series at 0.99).

And Wii Play Motion, according to nintendo sell more than 1 million too.

By the way, I really like Red Steel, it was a very good lunch title.

Honestly... I really don't understand people rating this game below an 8. I say 9, but below 8 is just not appropriate.

If you don't like survival horror, that's one thing and you should've done your homework before buying... or rented.

But, The game makes sense in every way. Could more money been put in to art? Sure, but I'm not going to knock it much for that as its a new IP on a new console. Does anyone expect a company to invest $20million in that type of game? Maybe if this was being put on an established console with 50million users. But not for a launch title. Even given that, it still looks really good and the dark gloomy atmosphere fits it to me anyways. Kinda like an older horror movie... which is probably the intended goal.

Then you add in the integration with your friends, random dev team comments in game, scares, fact that it literally gets your heart pumping with anticipation and nervousness, solid and punishing complexity, ...man its just a great game all around.

All ratings should be between 8 and 9 for this game easy.

You give your opinions with such authority and confidence. I still remember that one time you said anyone who isn't excited for the 3DS isn't a real gamer.

Anyway, an 8 is a great score. It's crazy to expect everyone to enjoy the game (even if they like the genre), let alone consider it great.

im playing it right now and its great, Red steel was just ok
Red steel 2 is still better than both imo

I think ZombiU is pretty great but, yeah, Red Steel 2 is better.

ZombiU is great. I have only arrived at the Buckingham basement but I'm having a blast. I have managed to survive all the spots where newcomers are supposed to die so far but I have also managed to die in completely stupid situations. The only negative thing is that if you have a lot of people on your flist that play the game you get a lot of ressources from their zombies. So I think ammunition could be more scarce. I have about 140 shots of pistol ammo which is a little bit ridiculous^^

Graphics could be better, too. I hope the sequel gets more budget.

Ongoing bet with think-man: He wins if MH4 releases in any shape or form on PSV in 2013, I win if it doesn't.

A 7/10 seems like the absolute minimum I'd give ZombiU if I were to try it. I'm liking the reemphasized approach to combat and the permadeath concept, but certain aspects of the game strike me as either rushed or low-budget. If I really enjoy how the levels are structured (I'm a level design connoisseur, after all), I'm thinking maybe upwards of 8/10. If I was more of a survival horror fan, I would definitely enjoy this game.

I'm still considering this game. my brother really liked how the game played so will probably get this soon.

I just have a hard time giving my money to Ubisucks!

    R.I.P Mr Iwata :'(

Man, I hope this evolves into an exclusive franchise on the Wii U! I highly doubt that, but I'm pretty sure it'll become a new franchise...

I'm on Twitter @DanneSandin!

Furthermore, I think VGChartz should add a "Like"-button.

Don't Listen to the Reviews on this game, Play it yourself, It's an amazing game, Not perfect 10 but Still one of the top Survival Horror games I've played in a looooooong time. I guarantee this game Will scare the crap out of you, It's been a while since I've been scared while playing a Game since RE4 lol

Do yourself a Favor and Buy this game if you get a Wii U You won't be dissapointed.

I would recommend both.

The first Red Steel is an underrated game. It can be a little twitchy and rough around the edges, but it's still a fun game with some good level design and decent multiplayer options. The second one is much improved, with some very good action set pieces and great motion controls. Note that you will need a MotionPlus attachment or remote to play Red Steel 2.
