So I've been messing around with the WiiU in the last few days and I really have to say just like my 3DS that they are a great console.  However I've spotted an issue.

First off I still believe somebody needs to make a console with a docking station.  This could make it both portable and a home console.  Dock it when you want to play it on TV and take it off when you want to take it out.  However nintendo went a similar route to what I've been thinking and they made the controller a handheld kind of.

The thing is I have New Super Mario Bros U and it uses the Mirror screen where it does everything that the WiiU is doing on the TV.  The problem I see with this which isn't really a problem but it makes it hard to differentiate it from the 3DS.  I see myself using the tablet instead of my TV and it makes me feel like I'm using a handheld console but instead I can't take it outside of my home.  I could see myself playing games like Kid Icarus on this easily.  Then you have  Super Smash Bros coming out on both the 3DS and the WiiU but both of them has a handheld like feel to them so I see no need in getting the 3DS from the information that we have so far.

Anyways what I'm trying to say is why didn't they just make the WiiU a dock so it could be both a handheld and a a home console.  I could see myself playing games like pokemon on the tablet even.  Anyways just wanted to hear others peoples thoughts on this.

I was going to do a write up on that particular aspect of the Wii U.  Its odd but you are constantly focusing on the Wii U screen.  When I played the wii u for the first time at the Nintendo Experience in August i noticed it alot with Rayman, I thought it was odd at the time, but didnt think more about it.  With NSMBU its the same thing, 80% of the time, my eyes are focused on the gamepad since its the least resistance and you get a better sense of control.  Same for web browsing, netflix, when im in my room away from the console.

Yeah I barely use my TV at all to be honest.  I don't even turn it on, I just pick up the gamepad and play.  Of course that is different with games like ZombiU where the gamepad does something different but it's just what I've noticed.

Its just way Nintendo implemented the 2nd screen in NSMB:U: everything is just replicated.  Assassin's creed handles it much better, I think.  Normally, the gamepad holds a large map, but you can switch it so it displays only on the gamepad.  This way you are not using the gamepad when playing on the tv, but can switch off the TV if you want to.

Designer's implementation preference.

Oh I don't mean it in a bad way.  I love it, but I'd like to be able to take it anywhere I go instead of just the room I have my WiiU in

Yeah, but the entirety of the console would need to be in the table.  Feel how heavy the console is?  To make it would be cost-prohibitive.

Would be nice though

Mine reaches to my bathroom, and into my office, that is all that really matters to me ;)

Lol I cant even take mine outside of my room haha

Off TV play is probably its biggest advantage. I don't see how it could ever be a minus.
