Definitely....so true. Especially when the most exclusives since 2008 have been coming to the PS3.

Have been coming.....but not necessarily selling.

Thats not my point. First of all we know who cares about making games more, secondly the ones that mattered sold very well.  New Ips dont sell so well in the later half of the gen (unless they have the hype to match their greatness). Sony has had many good or great games come out, but they make so many people can't breathe.

Thats propaganda.....self induced propaganda at that. Sony just owns more studios. Each is a corporation with the intention to get as much money from us as possible. Yet 360 somehow has more games, and more 70-79, 80-89-90+ games then PS3.

Well....look....at.....that :)

The ones that matter are Sony adopting MS's "3 Tier approach".

New Ips dont sell well in late parts of the gen.....then why is Sony making new Ips late in the gen.....sending them out to die? Making so many games people can't breathe.......more like taking blind shots in the dark and most just don't register with the gamers they are trying to persuade.

Did you know Halo 4 will outsell all 2012 PS3 exclusives combined? That right there says something very significant about this thread OP

People still bought Microsofts games, Microsoft wants 3 m or better in sales. They dont get enough games anyway. Microsoft just feels safer to the top three games. Microsofts first generation fleet of games were just horrible. This was a better gen, but still not great. Their top 3 took a step up even though their third best game wont last forever. Halo is a sci-fi shooter that differs from the rest of the crowd of FPS games, but it is no longer novel. It is still the heart of the Xbox existence and without it the Xbox is dead. Theres a healthy crowd who buy the consoles just to have Halo and Gears, Forza and the other multiplats.

Guess well keep coming back to the old arguments that you dont think XBLA is a viable space to create varied and quality experiences while spending the big money on the big 3 franchises. Call me crazy but spending millions upon millions to make games like Starhawk are a waste of dev time and money judging by the sales. If your gonna invest in a full retail exclusive, make damn sure its gonna sell. MS learned their lesson and Sony will have to learn the hard way.

As long as Forza maintains its surpurb quality itll sustain itself. It makes a profit before its bundles activate anyways. Halo and Gears aint going anywhere. While I won't downtalk Sonys "3 Tiers", I can say MS 3 Tiers sold a ton more as a franchise this gen then Sonys did.

Next gen will truly show which business model works. But one thing is forsure, churning out random retail exclusives with no marketing and hype just to please the diehard fans is not a sustainable future.

Stop using XBLA as a crutch, Steam and PSN have been doing that forever. You're using that as a crutch, so just stop it. Look how many games XBLA had come out this year, yet PSN has the game that will more than likely become GOTY, which is a first for any small game versus the large ones.

Sony doesn't have 3Tiers, they have more God of War, Killzone , InFamous, GT, Uncharted and LBP which are their first line. After that comes their new IPs and mid-level exclusives. I find that to be healthier than Microsofts safety mat system of the same three games, over and over and over again and then paying another third party to make them something semi-creative.

I am using games as a crutch in a agmes discussion.......right. It is no secret that MS uses XBLA for a low cost alternative to risk taking and quality games. XBLA is 360s main differentiators to PS3, next to 360/PC games and 360 big exclusives. I will use their strengths as I see fit. I dont care about Steam....this is PS3 vs 360. Stay on topic. Journey is different and artsy, but any real core gamer would take Trials Evolution and mark of the Ninja anyday (both 90)

Sony has GT, Uncharted, and God of War. The 3 Tiers. Killzone, Infamous, and especially LBP are all in decline. Again, XBLA exists whether you like it or not, games like Left 4 Dead and recently Witcher 2 are not available on PS3, 360 has plenty variety alongside its big 3.  With Halo 4 outselling all 2012 PS3 exclusives combined....I find your logic questionable that gamers dont want more of the same.

Sony is becoming more like MS every day :)

Xbox: Best hardware, Game Pass best value, best BC, more 1st party genres and multiplayer titles.

I am a core gamer as are many people on this site, but I dont doubt that many would disagree on the nominations Journey is getting. Its just a different type of game that is a very, very good thing for the industry. Sony Santa Monica is proving themselves to be versatile in making any game you can dream of while working with indy devs.Killzone is not on decline, and Sony recently bought Sucker Punch because they proved themselves to Sony and it was about time they joined the family. LBP needs some work, but in terms of sales its up there.

Personally, I dont want Sony to follow MS any further than online. Despite what you believe, Microsoft can do what they want themselves alone.

Who knows, infamous was really good and infamous 2 was awesome. Maybe because infamous 2 wasn't really advertised much

Lol @Sony having 3 tiers.

Uncharted, God of War, Gran Turismo, LittleBigPlanet and Killzone are all aces. These franchises has sold enough on the PS3 to keep them coming. Not to mention The last of us closing in...

I mean the lowest sold out of that franchise is Killzone which is still above 5 million for two games on the PS3. I'm sure I don't even need to go into the quality and acclaim of those games, they're rather known already.

And thats not mentioning the amazing other games that have been exclusives on the system such as Metal Gear Solid 4, Heavy Rain and the upcoming Beyond.

Exactly, and unlike Microsoft focusing on only three franchises per gen, next gen Sony will continue to make more hot franchises to build onto an already stable fleet of franchises. Only Microsoft has a three tier system, Sony doesn't have or need that.
