A lot of it has to do with the market. Sony has a lot of games that are just not popular to the mass market because of how it is played or looks. InFamous is a good/average game but beyond that it isn't something that is going to be great or amazing. Sony had plenty of games this generation to have a chance of hitting the mass market and only one succeeded which would be the Uncharted series. Why is because of how good of a job they did. Casuals and hardcore players can pick up this game whether you like story/cinimatics or gameplay/shooting. Get rid of your opinion about InFamous. Can you see someone who doesn't play games that much playing it? That is the question. Remember your opinion is only just that.

InFamous is not an average game and the quality is immense. It is setting standards for what a super hero game should be like outside of Batman Arkham City which takes its cues from Assassins Creed. InFamous is riding off of its own mechanics. If Sony picked up the marketing Cole Macgrath would be huge. Not that many people that I know have ever played InFamous and those whom I've let borrow my InFamous 2 game love cole. Again, you don't have to like anything that Sony does or makes, but the fact of the matter is you know Sony is keeping cole around because there is something about InFamous that is just awesome. IGN, themselves had to do a speculation of the ending of part two because the end of the game kept them wondering.

I said average/good.  I own both so no need to try and sell me on the game.  I'd say InFamous deserves a solid 8.5 and the second one an 8.0.  While this is good, there is other games in the same genre that is better and targets the mass market better which is what I was saying.

EDIT:  In fact I was very close with my scores.  InFamous metacritic is an 85 and InFamous 2 is an 83

I am not trying to sell you on the game. Also, what other games in the super/hero action/adventure sandbox genre go after a larger audience? The problem is Sonys marketing. The third game is going to be sick.

It is not competing with just super hero games but right off the bat Batman Arkhum Asylum and Batman Arkhum city would be the two biggest.

It is also competing with sandbox games as this is what it'll get compared to so here is a list of sandbox games that are better.  Assassin's Creed series, GTA, Skyrim, Fallout, Oblivion, etc.  While thise all are not in the adventure category they are in the sandbox so they will get compared regardless.  If we are strictly talking about games just like InFamous then there is about 3 games like it that I can think of which would be Batman, Assassin's Creed, and Prototype.  Batman and Assassin's Creed are both better and target the mass market.  Prototype in my opinion deserves around a 7.0 never played the 2nd so I can't judge that one.  But being 3rd out of 4 games this generation isn't going to hold up well.  It is good but as I said it is not the best ether

I will never know why Infamous 2 didn't sell better personally I enjoyed it more than GTA4 and the same thing happen to Darksiders, great game mediocre sales.

They are just under-appreciated that's all

It's a bit odd that a series so critically acclaimed as the Infamous series has not sold up to the same standard of the games. I realize that quality doesn't equal sales, but I thought Sony actually did a good job with marketing Infamous 1/2 to the mainstream.

The first game is at 2.3 million, while the superior second game is just at a little above 1 million.

While games such as prototype outsell it. A little odd.

Thoughts?

Eh Overall I thought that Infamous was a little boring...riddled with too much side content which hampers the main game progression...I get the whole sandbox concept, but a little focused linearity never hurt...

Do you get on GTA's case for that?

I only comment on games I actually play and I haven't touched GTA since I used to play the shareware version in HS in programming class. As a general rule I don't play many sand box games because they are not my cup of tea, though I did think RDR was okay and the first AC was pretty decent though I think those games had the same problems to varying degrees.

Sandbox games kind of seem like  a series of compartmentalized mini games where they all have the same general rules and never really seem to get anyore difficult than the last time you had to complete the same objective. To me that detracts from the play experience. I realize though that I am in the minority on that opinion becuase all the games I've mentioned are million sellers, so obivously people love them. But if you put Bayonetta and GTA IV in front of me and ask me to pick one, I'd am almost always going to choose Bayonetta...

Ok dude...first of all Arkham City is an Assassins Creed rip off. Most people don't give Assassins Creed the credit, but play the games back to back, seriously. I love the franchise, but its true. InFamous is a superhero game and prototype and Arkham City are its only major competition. The franchise will grow, which is why Sony is sticking with it.

Ok bro...It does not matter if it is a ripoff or not. Personally I don't see it that way and I dont even like the Batman games. Point is people will buy the better games.  I'm not saying anything against InFamous as i like the InFamous.  It was the first game I platinumed actually.  You seem to always get in a debate with me for whatever reason

Marketing. I bought it pre-owned years after it came out, loved it to pieces (actually my surprise hit on the PS3). Couldn't have picked it out of a lineup of one when at the time it came out, though.

Your rating is similar to mine. Id give the first an 8 and second a 9. But are you seriously considering your 8 to be average? And people blame the critics.. 5 is average/mediocre, 6 is decent, 7 is plain good, 8 is great, 9 pretty much incredible. Maybe thats just me.

I don't even know if it's because it doesn't have mass market appeal. If it does, the mass market still wouldn't know about it because Sony doesn't market half their shit.
