Why is Naughty Dog so much more respected this gen?

Naughty Dog has grown as developers. Insomiac never lost talent, they just tried creating a Halo killer. The thing is people like Halo for a reason. Resistance turned out to be a good solid series so they didnt fail as developers, they just failed at what they set out to do. Ratchet and Clank are great mascots and has good gameplay mechanics but they are going to get smaller as time goes on. If they were on a nintendo platform then they would probably gain popularity. While this is sad it is true. This goes to jak and daxter too. Great games but if they make a 4th it will not be as successful as the previous 3. Sly Cooper same. The thing is that these type of mascots are no longer big like they were in previous generations. The only place that these type of mascots do good in are on nintendo platforms. Now this doesn't mean they wont be successful because they will be. They will all be able to sell more than 1 million maybe 2 but not more.

For me the Resistance franchise is just good (7/10). Uncharted beats it in every imaginable level.

But I have to admit that Ratchet and clank: A crack in time is awesome. So I guess they still have the talent, but they choose the wrong genre.

I would really like a new "TRUE" ratchet and clank game like a crack in time and not like All 4 one, which for me is just a decent game.

They could. If they had created something at the same level of Uncharted 2: Among Thieves.

Back then I thought nothing could surpass Gears of War but UC did it.

I bought my PS3 in 2009 for MGS4 and GOW III, but it was Uncharted that impressed me the most.

How many games are there that are as acclaimed as Uncharted 2? Virtually none. Which is why no company can compare. Not even Naughty Dog will be able to reproduce this.

Crash was more popular than Spyro, but both were really good. Then after ND lost their break out hit, they evened out with Jak vs Ratchet. Uncharted and Resistance both started at the same level, loaded with potential but just a tad average.

What really helps ND shine over insomniac is that they have a giant publisher backing their every move. Yes, most of Insomniac's games have been published by Sony, yet they still do not reap all the financial and production benefits ND will be able to. Sony seems much more lenient on time tables for their 1st Party then they are for their second. This allows more creativity to blossom. If IG was owned by Sony I think Resistance would have turned out quite differently. Yet Ted Price stated multiple times, he prefered the freedom to run his company as he saw fit, and then make the games that he wanted. ND can't just decide to start a new IP without Sony's approval. IG can, Sony or whomever might not publish it, but they can probably find another that will.

They have always been in sharp competition with one another but in a friendly cheeky way.

Even though that is true, considering the results of ND games, if they want to create a new IP,  Sony will always say..."I approve" XD

One thing nobody has pointed out yet is game development time. ND spends 2 years on every cycle whereas Insomniac had a new game out every year and you could see the quality dropping. The games were actually very good, but they just weren't polished enough.
