Forums - Sales Discussion - PS3 Set To Overtake Wii and Xbox 360 In Australia (?!?)

Lol. Given I'm in Sydney and most of the stores around me are only just getting Wii's back in, whereas I could easily purchase 20 PS3's from my local two stores RIGHT NOW (finances permitting), I'd say this is not the case. However, it is true that Sony has a deal going whereby a PS3 was given away with each Sony Bravia television sold (certain models only). But bear in mind this is Australia. We are a small market. Even if Sony televisions DOMINATED the market this holiday season, there isn't a chance in hell that over 125000 PS3's were shifted this holiday season.

The article doesn't state any holiday numbers, all it says is Wii reached 200k LTD in November, and PS3 reached 175k LTD by the end of the year.... both of which are true by VGC numbers, yet for some reason the writer doesn't understand the numbers.

Wishmul make that article!!!!!

Sony just giving away free PS3s with Bravia HDTV sales? Wow...

That's one way to meet the PS3 "sales" forecast, but when those financials come out... yeouch!

My Website

End of 2008 totals: Wii 42m, 360 24m, PS3 18.5m (made Jan. 4, 2008)

This article is as wrong as can be. There is *no* buzz for the PS3 here, and the fact that Sony are *giving them away* says a lot.

Latest figures I have seen put the Wii well over 300k, and increasing its lead over the PS3 every week. Its not that far from catching the 360 now.

The PS2 is however, selling really well here - as is the DS - as they both have the sweetest mass market price point at the moment.

I agree. I was just pointing out that even if the author understood what he or she was trying to say, it couldn't possibly have happened.  Besides, the Christmas numbers are already available to the console giants, Sony Australia would be crowing about this from every rooftop.

so does that mean Wii sports is NOT given away with a Wii?

Nintendo Australia updated their sales figures for Australia as at End 07 at 293000. This is in line with VGChartz.

Sony's promotion runs til Jan 25 and includes is for any Full HD unit - including the 81cm LCD, which is at Bing Lee for $1800. Been thinking of picking up a TV myself but would prefer a plasma.

The PS3 is not going to outsell the Wii or 360  in Australia. The 40 GB model is $700 AU. While the standard (I'm pretty sure it's the 60G)B is $1000. The games are usually $120 AU. Way out of most people's price range. (I'm from Australia if you haven't already guessed)

The Wii is catching up to the 360 though, but sometimes it gets outsold by 360.

So why did they call it the 360?because when you see it, you'll turn 360 degrees and walk away- some guy on Gamespot
