Forums - Microsoft Discussion - Xbox 720 Devkit Specs Detailed, Includes 16-Core Processor

This rumor makes the NextBox sound really expensive. I'm hoping this isn't true cause if so then Sony is going to try to top Microsoft and then their next system will cost even more. It looks as if my one next generation console goal is still going to be intact. Gaming is going to be cost too much next gen and unless I get a better job, or a second one, then I won't be able to afford it. However, as all of us know it's best to wait till the official specs are released and not rely on rumors, as we have seen with the several conflicting rumors about the Wii U's power.

Oh it was Fudzilla that said that? Disregard everything.

A 16 core Power PC processor that is custom designed for the 360 really wouldn't cost as much as some of you believe. If they've leased IBM to create the CPU like they did on the 360 then once the chip is designed and fabricated Microsoft can then shrink the costs as they did on the 360. While surprising this isn't impossible to do for a solid price point.

So basically they let Mark Rein design it

Don't they actually mean quadcore with 4 somethings per core meaning it can handle 16 thingies at the same time? Basically like Wii U Power7 CPU?

I say bollocks to any nexgen console having better specs than well endowed 2012 gaming PC.

If these rumors are true then they probably confused 16 cores with 16 threads. To explain it means that usually (in what video games are concerned) 1 core can handle 2 or 4 threads of codes, for example: the xbox 360 have a 3 core processor and it can handle 2 threads per code, so in total it can handle 6 threads. If what I believe is true then the next xbox will have a 4 core processor that can handle 4 threads of code (so in total it can handle 16). I personally think this makes much more sense than a 16 core processor, because that's just ridiculous.

Nintendo and PC gamer

Ridiculous rumor. Not to mention it contradicts the IGN PS4 specs which are much more reliable and believable.
SilleGamer said that PS4 will more powerful than this 16-core Xbox, lol. PS4 mentioned a quad core processor so unless Sony decided to launch another $600 console, SillerGamer is...making up silly rumors.

actually sillegamer say developer "expect" PS4 will more powerful than nextbox
but yeah 16 core is already ridiculous
