Mafia is a party/forum game in which there are often two teams or more vying to kill the other team. A player wins when his opposing team is neutralized, even if the player has been removed from the game.
Players work through a day/night period of days, during which players may vote to lynch other players (daytime) or use special powers (nighttime)
Typical night time roles include:
Doctor: A doctor picks a target to protect. If said player is targeted to be killed by another player, the doc will prevent the kill.
Cop: A cop picks a target to investigate. In the morning, the cop will be informed of that player's alignment. If the investigated player is town, the verdict will be town. If the player is not a townie, the cop will be informed as such.
Mafia: Mafia pick a target to kill every night. Unless anything is done to stop it, mafia will remove that player from the game.

To start there will only be a few basic rules. Further rules will be voted on everyday.
Voting. Voting will be done on a majority basis.
To vote for someone, start a new line and type Vote:. Please make sure to remember the semicolon . When a player has received enough votes, they are lynched, and their alignment will "flip" before night begins. You can unvote as well by simply typing unvote on a separate line.
For majority lynch, a player can only be lynched by receiving more than 50% of the total votes. ie; if there are 9 players, hammer vote (lynching vote) occurs when a player receives 5 votes. Similarly for 8 players, lynch is also at 5. Hammer vote ends the day.
At the time limit, the player who has received the most votes will be lynched and removed from the game.
PMs
Private messages between the moderator and the player are sacred. Do not quote anything sent to you by pm. You may paraphrase, but no quoting.
Conversation
There is no discussion outside of this thread unless expressly allowed. If you talk outside the thread about this game in a pm to another player, and I find out, you will be removed from the game, as will the person you pm'd and possibly your team will be automatically disqualified, or you may lose another team member at the very least.
Death
Once you have been removed from the game, do not comment on anything happening in the game either in the thread or outside to any players who are still alive, nor other people who may be inclined to tell a living player. You can tell your pet or family member should you so choose.
General information:
Each day will last 24 hours. Night will also last 24 hours. These periods will be shortened depending on whether or not actions are received on time or not. If you have a night action, please get your actions in to me ASAP. If you do not PM me the message of your action, your ability will be randomized. If you would like to randomize your ability without having to wait the duration of night, simply pm me "randomize role".
Do not fret. This is just a practice game.
Welcome players. Day begins at 5:00pm EST and ends at 5:00pm tomorrow, beginning the night phase, and then the day phase the next 5:00pm. Every 5pm EST, the next phase begins.
