I think Vita will do well in Japan. Although much more expensive than the 3DS, it has a butt load of features and for me personally, the launch line-up is amazing. It's got a lot of potential.

The Vita needs to be a monster in Japan. Bigger than the PSP is, since the NA and EU markets have weakened or are continuing to weaken as exchange rates are getting worst. So the Japanese need to make up for the rest of the world and pump money into a rotting (thanks Stringer) company.

The 3ds launched at 25,000 yen ($321 US) and then they dropped the price 10,000 yen($128) to 15,000 yen($192), its current price.

The Vita is launching at 25,000 yen($321) wifi and 30,000 yen($385) 3G.

Thanks to early adopters, most hardware will sell well, initially. It's what happens a couple of months down the road that matters. That's when the hardcore fans are out of the way and the average consumer comes in.
