Forums - Sony Discussion - The heck, PS3 DMC4 requires 25 min hard drive installation?!

Uncharted streams the data on the fly off the disc, that's why it doesn't loads... and Devil May Cry won't do it like that, as it need the data to be on the HDD.

Have you seen the Orange box videos? The PS3 had a MASSIVE amount of load time in comparison.

I have Orange box for PS3 and the loads time isn't that bad yet Uncharted looks 10 times better than Orange box with no loads time.

Watch that video and tell me that the difference between those two are insignificant. Everyone can deal with load times being bad but that doesn't mean it should be.

I've seen this video and it's odd I can't get my PS3 version to take this long on any level on portal so far.

Anyone here that has the PS3 version get the load times shown in this video? So far the ones I've timed is around 10 seconds. I wonder if the one playing  the PS3 version was eating potato chips before they put in the disc.

I'd gladly wait the 25min for the game to install if it means no load times that would otherwise interrupt my play time. I've had to wait longer on PC games and they still have load times so this by comparison is nothing.

I guess if people want to bitch then they'll simply bitch.

 Excellent words of wisdom 8)

Again, I agree that this isn't a negative thing from the installation time point of view. The issue is with hard drive space for those who may own 20GB PS3s. 5GBs is a lot of space. Hopefully they will make this optional to accommodate those who don't want to use up 1/4 of their hard drive space for shorter load times.

yeah, that is the actual issue. Like I said before, not making it optional is pretty stupid.

After installing and updating FFXI last year, I've become immune to install times. Now THAT game took a long time to install.

Meh, I'm buying it for PC anyway. That does seem annoying though.

I didn't know it was coming out for PC....screw buying it for PS3 then for me! :P

HDD issue that you say is not really an issue at all, just delete the previous installed game or other useless junk and your good to go.  The PS3 owners will have 1 expirience with the game across the board in terms of load times but for 360 owners it's another matter since their is no installation.

I just wonder if the 360 version will have no load times when caching to the HDD?

This is great news, i wish oblivion on the 360 would of had something like that, 1-3mins of load time when doing anything, walk outside 1min, start to walk fast outside another 30sec, need to enter another house 2mins. Talk about wrecking the flow of the game.

PC is actually the primary development platform.  The game is being ported from PC to the PS3 and 360.  This is comon with HD games this generation because PC games are much cheaper to develop and easier to port down to the consoles.  Many other big games have done/are doing this, even though the PC won't be the primary sales source for the game. This, Bioshock, Bionic Commando, Fallout 3, etc.
