Forums - Sony Discussion - Dream Roster For PS3's Rumored Brawler Title Fight ( IGN )

link : http://ps3.ign.com/articles/121/1213497p2.html

"Rumors are swirling that Sony is hard at work on a crossover fighter called Title Fight. The veracity of these claims is untested, as Sony traditionally doesn't comment on "rumor and speculation," even if we beg them to.

Yet, the very mention of a Sony crossover fighter (ala Marvel vs. Capcom or Smash Bros.) is tantalizing, to say the very least. Sony's first party roster is about as deep as they come, and they'd have plenty of interesting characters to pull from, both of the well-known and obscure varieties.

The source of the rumor has called out seven characters already that will purportedly be in the game. They include Kratos (God of War), Parappa the Rapper (Parappa the Rapper), Nathan Drake (Uncharted), Sly Cooper (Sly Cooper), Fat Princess (Fat Princess), Colonel Mael Radec (Killzone), and Sweet Tooth(Twisted Metal).

We thought it would be fun to throw out 20 of our own ideas, ignoring the ones from the rumor to make as much room as possible for as many names as we could fit. So don't fret that the likes of Drake and Cooper aren't on our stage select screen below. If this game is real, they'll obviously be in the final product.

So without further ado, it's time to present IGN's Dream Roster forTitle Fight, consisting entirely of Sony-owned characters.

For an underground, little-known RPG series, Arc the Lad certainly endures, with five primary games in the series spread across the PlayStation and PlayStation 2. Not surprisingly, Arc the Lad surrounds a character named Arc, a kid initially tasked with finding his long-lost father. Over the course of his adventure, he becomes very strong, relying on swordplay and magic to fend off enemies. In Title Fight, he'd likely rely on the same two skills to fend off his fellow combatants, and perhaps even have the ability to heal himself a bit during battle using some of his aforementioned magical abilities.

Try to deny that you'd like to see Kratos take on Buzz, Sony's Muppet and Host of Buzz! Quiz World. A flapping head full of accent and insults, Buzz would add a lot of levity to Title Fight. He'd throw pies, climb on larger fighters' heads, and constantly be talking -- even when getting his ass handed to him. Half the fun of Buzz! Games is listening to the host insult you, so hearing him give you multiple choice questions as he stomps a mudhole in you sounds pretty fun. His special move? A ninja attack with some Buzz controller nunchucks or the opponent getting crushed by a contestant podium sounds about right.

By the time Title Fight comes out, Cole MacGrath will be a seasoned fighting vet thanks to his appearance in Street Fighter X Tekken over on the PlayStation Vita. Still, this is Sony's chance to have fun with the Demon of Empire City. For starters, let us pick if we're good or evil Cole from the selection screen; then, give us different moves based on that -- ice grenades versus napalm grenades, you dig? Outside of lightning powers for range, Cole's tuning fork called the Amp should play a big part when it comes to melee. But when it comes to the special move, we want some of Title Fight's biggest moments to belong to Cole. How about activating the Raysphere and nuking the environment you're fighting in? How about calling in the Lightning Strike and decimating your foe? What about bringing in the Beast to smush the bad guy? The sky's the limit.

Sure, sure -- we're getting ahead of ourselves casting Emmett Graves in Title Fight as his game Starhawk isn't even out yet, but we like developer Lightbox's style and can only assume Starhawk will be as rad as it looks. Starhawk's all about shooting and calling in support constructs, so that's what we'd have Emmett lean on. There'd be a machine gun for range, the ability to call in turrets for cover fire, and a wrench to lay the smack down with. Emmett's best friend Sydney would pop up onscreen in the little communicator box we've seen him in before for quips and info on opponents, and Emmett's special move would see a massive construct fall from the sky and smush his opponent.

It's hard not to crack a smile when you think about Ethan Mars being in Title Fight. But how couldn't he be? The man best known for being Jason's tortured father in Heavy Rain would be more of a comical character than a serious one. Perhaps he'd yell "Jason!" when the fight began, only to turn the saw he used to cut his own finger off on you, his unlucky adversary. The thought of Ethan Mars fighting everyone from Sackboy to Kratos is absolutely hilarious, making Ethan Mars an absolutely must-have character in Title Fight.

It's time for Gabe Logan to get back to kicking ass. Relegated to the PSP for his last two outings, this Syphon Filter super-spy would arrive in HD for the first time and bring hand to hand skills, gadgets, and plenty of tricks to Title Fight. Thing is, Gabe's all about cover shooting. So while he'd get in and mix it up with some melee moves and knife-packing CQC, his ranged attacked would call in cover like crates so that he could target bad guys and shoot without risk of injury. When he drained an opponent's health meter and was ready for a special move, the screen would go pitch black before Gabe's green night vision popped back on for a precise headshot.

Ico might just be a little kid, but the horned one has already proven his butt-kicking abilities and will be an easy fit in Title Fight. It simply comes down to swordplay. Using his wooden wonder, Ico would be able to bash, slap and poke all manner of opponent whether it be Nathan Drake or Nathan Hale -- and imagine blocking bullets with a wave of your sword. His special moves would revolve around Yorda (he could call her in for distractions like holding the opponent's hand) and his finisher would be a flurry of sword strikes that end with the shadow creatures popping up to pull the foe to an untimely demise.

Jak's been fighting on the PlayStation platform since the glory days of the PS2. Our Title Fight version of him would take everything we love about the character and boil it down to three main attacks: guns, jumps and Daxter. Jak could whip out the Vulcan Fury minigun from Jak II for ranged attacks, leap to the air and come down with devastating smashes, and use Daxter (who would always be on our heroes shoulder) for his trademark spin moves. When it was time for a special, Dark Eco would overrun our hero and he'd unleash Dark Jak for a massive melee assault.

Somewhat (but not completely) based on Joan of Arc, Jeanne D'Arc was a cult hit with PSP gamers. The main character, a 17 year old girl named Jeanne D'Arc, is a steadfast warrior who wields a blade with incredible skill. In Title Fight, it would be awesome if Jeanne used a sword as her primary weapon, and it would be funny (and clever) to call out her French roots with spoken lines that weren't delivered only in her native language. Something tells us that a Jeanne-Nariko battle would be absolutely epic.

When The Getaway came to PlayStation 2, gamers were absolutely floored by the high level of both the gameplay and narrative alike. The main character in the game, Mark Hammond, is a guy you reluctantly root for, not only because he's been framed in the murder of his wife and child, but because he's being pinched from both sides by the cops and various British crime syndicates. Mark Hammond would be a pretty straight-forward character in Title Fight, using firearms and fisticuffs to survive. But it would be his various spoken lines that would likely make him a player favorite.

Poor Nariko. If Heavenly Sword had come out exclusively to PlayStation 3 a couple of years after it actually did, it would have fared much better. But having come out in mid-2007 with a poor PS3 install base, Heavenly Sword was a high quality game that went largely unnoticed. Yet, the game's protagonist Nariko endures, and she'd be an incredibly natural fit for a game like Title Fight. After all, she's a bona fide, weapon-wielding warrior, and would give her fellow combatants plenty to worry about in the ring.

Nathan Hale's dramatic exit from the Resistance series was just about as dramatic as his story, which found him turning slowly-but-surely into an alien Chimera. Hale's fate at the end of Resistance 2 is essentially sealed, though in a fighting game like Title Fight, he could surely be brought back to life. With the combined skills of a human and Chimera, Hale would be a worthy combatant, one that could use Chimeran weapons and hand-to-hand techniques alike. Perhaps he can even draw Chimeran Hybrids into battle with him to help him out here and there.

Ratchet and Clank have been in about a million PlayStation exclusives, and each and every one of them have featured a healthy stable of ridiculous weapons. Those weapons need to be in Title Fight. The disco ball that makes your opponent dance so you can get in some cheap shots, the gun that turns bad guys into chickens so you can run over and kick'em, and all the rest would be here. Ratchet's straight melee would rely on his Omniwrench and wouldn't be all that impressive, but his debilitating weapons would give him a fighting chance. When it was time for a special move, Ratchet could toss down a homing beacon and then have Captain Qwark crash his ship on top of it.

Wild Arms is easily one of the most underrated and underappreciated RPGs in the history of gaming, and its riveting hero Rudy Roughtnight is a man who can hold his own in the heat of battle. As a man who can use special firearms known as ARMs in battle, Rudy's steampunk vibe is heightened even more when it's revealed that he's actually a robot. His kind are known as Holmcross, and perhaps special skills given to him could be used on his many opponents in Title Fight. Either way, a battle between him and fellow obscure RPG hero Arc would be pretty epic.

Since LittleBigPlanet's debut, the cuddly cute knitted wonder known as Sackboy has been a prominent PlayStation mascot. Now, it's time to see him put his dukes up. We can already knock down other Sackpeople in LBP with vicious slaps, so that variety of flailing hand to hand combat should be Sackboy's bag -- along with a bunch of unlockable costumes. However, the real fun comes down to special moves. Sackboy should be able to call up his Popit menu, select the "suicide" option players know so well, and hold his breath until the opponent explodes. Also, enemies should have special Sackboy finishers where they unzip his chest and yank the stuffing out.

Housemarque's downloadable PSN-exclusive Dead Nation is all about killing zombies. One of its two playable characters, the sexy Scarlett Blake, wields firearms and explosives with considerable skill. If she were to appear in Title Fight, her array of assault rifles and grenades would serve her very well, though it would be easy to imagine her summoning forth some friendly zombies to help her in her quest, as well.

For newer gamers, the short-lived PlayStation series MediEvil is a bit of a throwback. But the main character in the game, Sir Daniel Fortesque, is the victim of historical exaggeration, built up into being a hero during his life that he wasn't actually. When he comes back in his skeletal form, he's able to fulfill his destiny as a hero, which could perhaps play into is persona in Title Fight. Sir Fortesque could be an eager combatant, wielding a sword and shield with considerable aplomb.

Ape Escape holds the interesting distinction of being the very first PlayStation game to require the use of a Dual Shock controller. It's also the game that introduced us to a character named Spike, a boy tasked with saving history from the clutches of devious monkeys. In Title Fight, Spike could wield his weapons like the Time Net and Stun Club with serious repercussions, and perhaps even call in some of his captured apes to help him deal as much damage to his opponent as possible.

It seems only right to include Vahn in on the fun of the prospective Title Fight. After all, Vahn hails from the RPG Legend of Legaia, a role-playing game mixed-up with the mechanics of a fighter. Thus, at least in terms of mechanics, Vahn would segue well into Title Fight, wielding his blade and fists alike with devastating consequences. He also has the ability to use fire in the heat of battle (pardon the pun), which would certainly come in handy and would obviously be one of the keys to successfully using him.

If you can fight off a colossus whose big toe is as big as your entire body, you can make it in Title Fight. Wander would mainly work opponents over with sword play, but he'd also be able to hold his sword up and blind opponents with a beam of light, run over folks with his horse, and fire off an arrow from his bow. His finisher? Obvious isn't it -- he'd call in a colossus to crush the broken bodies of beaten opponents.

I think Heavy Rain isn't owned by Sony though. Gotta ask CGI.

They should really work to keep "normal" people at a minimum. One human who looks normal and lacks major superpowers, so pick one standard FPS guy.

I'm certain Activision would be willing to loan out Crash for this. Spyro perhaps not since they're focused on relaunching it all with Skylanders

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.

They gotta get Crash Bandicoot (I know Activision owns the IP now but it can't cost that much to licence it for one character), a driver to represent Gran Turismo, Clank (as well as Ratchet who is on the list), maybe Tanner from the Driver games, someone from GTA (used to be exclusive), Snake, and probably a few others I can't think of.

How is solid snake not in there?

"Trick shot? The trick is NOT to get shot." - Lucian

how about knuckles, amy(who knows where she hides that hammer), some digimon, and shadow.

also i'm still not totally on board with this. i think so far from this list and others mentioned by MUGEN would fit perfectly.

Mark Hammond.. XD

I think the Sony Brawler is real. After all, where there's smoke there's also fire.
