Forums - Sales Discussion - Global Up!! 19th November (Europe Up!)

last wk the gap between 360 and PS3 was 100k. this wk its 56k. 360 is down 87k from last wk, and PS3 is down 16k. nicely done. black friday wk should an interesting 1 and hopefully we'll know by friday not that i'm complaining. i'd like to see PS360 do well over 500k. yes that would make me very happy.

Seems to me people are pissed that ioi has admitted that some areas i.e Asia/Africa/South America/Middle East etc are near impossible to track right now and so assume there will be lower numbers. But if your interested in sales numbers wouldn't you rather have them as accurate as they can be? Europe/North America and Japan include the main markets for gaming and will now show us a far more accurate picture of how sales are. We're talking around 90% of worldwide sales if you break it down. I would much rather that then simply guess how a region is doing which makes the total worldwide numbers look out.

According to ioi, it is 79%, so the other 21% will be based in some sort of extrapolation/formula.

It is no that bad, the 21% will be a little less accurate, but I don't think it is going to be so dramatic.

Seece i think maybe you should have an explanation in the op stating that worldwide numbers are the exact same as they are every week (people dont seem to be getting this).

The US, UK, and Japan sales breakdown is part of the new regional breakdown structure. More region specific numbers will be added as time goes by, BUT IT WILL NOT CHANGE THE WW numbers.

So instead of having EMEAA, Americas, and Japan we will have +- 8 region specific numbers in addition to the WW sales which also includes every other region.

If ive got this wrong please let me know, otherwise people should be told this. As it stands now in the OP (and thread title), its easy to mistake ww numbers to only consists of US, UK and Japan, which is incorrect.

The timing is a bit off. Why change everything in the busiest time of the year around black friday when the site has the most attention? Right now numbers on the frontpage dont even match between the different tables.

Otherwise, a table for Germany sounds good.

I know to most of us here it seems like common sense as ioi has explained this in various threads, but not every reader and poster has read those threads or responses and similarly not everyone reads every post in this thread. And to be fair we shouldnt expect them to. Like i said above, I think an explanation in OP will do the job though.

Add me if you want but let me know youre from this website

So, WW total from now on with a group of regional breakdowns? Seems better although I'll wait for final version to be sure. What's position for 360 for number 1 WW based on this? Seems to me it's not making up enough ground vs PS3 lead at this point and although I expect a big BF spike it's hard to imagine at this point it can be big enough to eat into PS3 lead enough.

I saw Nintendo claiming 500K plus Wii for BF so I guess the Wii is looking at one last decent holiday season at least, which I would imagine will take it beyond 360/PS3 in pretty much all regions. I think 360 can close gap on Wii in US but I find it hard to imagine it surpassing it currently.

SW wise AC had a good start. I didn't buy it personally as I'm fed up with Ubi clearly milking the series and simply extending a character who was clearly supposed to only feature for one game, plus they're pissing me off as a PC gamer too, but plenty of people clearly bought into the whole "final part" spiel from Ubi even though it's clearly false as they've already said AC3 will tie up the core trilogy.

Too much trouble at present to flip through separate charts to see the WW total so I'll wait until the rest of the tables are up before trying to consider SW further - I do expect a single WW SW chart though otherwise it'll be a pain having to flip through individual regions adding them up to get a total aggregation - Seece, Kow, will we be getting such a table do you know?

Try to be reasonable... its easier than you think...

I think thats exactly why they changing things now. This new structure imo will give more credibility to the numbers. Its also a good move on the websites part towards transparency of numbers and accuracy. Now we know exactly which regions are more accurate than others, so if other websites decide to use VGC data (and this is the time when sales become important ) they can quote the accurate results, and that data will fall in line better with other tracking companies etc.

Also i wouldnt say theres a right time or a wrong time, these changes are not gonna be done over night i think ioi mentioned that this will take a few months, the idea might be to start the new year with this new structure or asap in the new year.

I expect more, not a fan of the this new set up at all, I hate the USA and especially the UK for sales figures set up, from what I read there was going to be several more charts? Also it appears to be the case now where software just has shrunk by a few 100k or raised by a few 100k...suspisciously the decreases are on PS3 titles and the increases so far noted are on 360 titles, whilst the only charts available bar Japan so 2 out of the four or 5 countries in the world where Micro$oft's attempt at a "console" beat the PS3.

IMO, bring back Americas (sod the USA chart on it's own), EMEAA and try and have a wider Asia sales chart.
