War gets to people and they do strange things. Not defending his actions but I'm just saying nobody knows what was going on in his head at the time.

I think life, with a chance of getting out in 9 years is reasonable. If I was the judge I'd make him serve at least a mandatory 12-14 years before he could get parole though.

Seems like defending his actions. And no, he shouldn't have the possibility of parole. Getting out after 9 years considering what he did is ridiculous. You're only saying that because he's an American who butchered muslims. If it were the other way around you'd be screaming for the death penalty.

As awful as this person's crimes are, his conviction is a good sign for the American military because most militaries around the world would not charge their soldiers for crimes similar to these. Certainly western democracies would behave similarly, but they are (by far) a tiny minority of countries.

Wouldn't msot countries have sent this to the International Court of Justice (since this is a case of war crimes and crimes against humanity)? And he shouldn't have gotten the possiblity of parole.

Some justice. Butcher 3 people and mutilate corpses and get a life in prison.

I'm not denying that what he did was wrong. It was absolutely awful on all accounts.

But today is Veteran's Day. Not the appropriate day to post this.

Sigh- I know you mean well, I really do. But America =/= the world.

I wonder if you still think it would be reasonable if he killed one of your loved ones...

In most countries he wouldn't have been charged with anything

I think you're right actually. I keep forgetting that most countries aren't really nice places to live in.

Well actually when I think about it he probably should get life, or at the very least 20 years then the chance of parole.

Your comment about it being an American who butchered muslims got me thinking...if the roles were reversed and it was Iraq/Afghanistan invading America and they butchered civilians then I would most certainly hope they get killed. My initial post honestly wan't racially motivated though, I was just somewhat defending his actions because it was during a war...but my opinion has since changed.

If it was the other way around they'd have given him a medal.
