Forums - Microsoft Discussion - How will Kinect preform during the holidays?

I'm pretty sure star wars will push kinect on casual in USA.... I mean anything star wars here is almost a boom for anyone from 25 to 90 years old here... so if they market that you can be a jedi for the first time of your life I'm pretty sure it will push sales... plus if they bundle at the right place you will have a Wii like effect.... all those casual that played it a couple times at friend house during a party and will buy one because they think it's cool and not especially play that much or buy any other games

The Star Wars game has been delayed and is not coming this holiday season:

kinect will fare well. not sure it can do last yr;s numbers.

I honestly don't know. The buzz for Kinect has died down but Kinect support seems to be ramping up. I hope M$ gives Kinect a healthy price cut to get the public excited again. With new Kinect Dashboard features, marketing, support, and a lower price, Kinect can do well. I just don’t think it can touch last year's level of excitement.

I honesty don't think Kinect will much more than 50% of what it did last year unless it has a big price cut.  The hype has died down, Star Wars isn't coming out, the 360 is near the end of its life cycle, and Kinect is currently only selling around 20k monthly.  That is, although surely undertracked, a very low number.  Hot items like the Wii, the Wii Fit, the IPad, never stooped to such low levels.  The Wii Fit is 3 years old and it destroying Kinect right now.  Microsoft can't throw out nearly the marketing budget this year either.  Kinect will sell, but I don't think it will hit anywhere near 2010 numbers-- it might even do far less than 50%.

Most anticipated games of 2011:

Uncharted 3,Legend of Zelda: Skyward Sword, Rocksmith

Modern Warfare 3, Super Mario 3D

Hmmm I'm thinking roughly 70% of its sales last year.

It'll be down in EMEAA and probably right around on par in NA as it was last year or slightly less. In other words still highly successful but not at the same level it was during its launch timeframe.

Dont know where you are getting your numbers. After July NPD it was reported by Gamasutra that 52% of 360s being sold are Kinect bundles. So your 20K number is way off. Maybe just the standalone units are selling 20K per month, but not total Kinects.

As for this year I expect sales to be as good or better in November and December simply because last year they were in short supply. That will not be the case this year.  MS will not run out mid December like they did last year.

Its libraries that sell systems not a single game.

I meant 20k weekly-- pulled from vgchartz numbers.  How will it sell on par to last years numbers when it can't even outsell Wii Fit?  Its not like Kinect is flying off the shelves right now.

Well, according to the latest issue of Game Informer, sales from October, November, and December are equal to the other nine months combined when it comes to console and games sales.  Maybe a good fourth quarter is all they need to have a good year.
