This late in the generation, I think it's fine...if they took it out in the first 2-3 years, I'd have been very disappointed.

They also removed the ability to play GBA games on the DS
Its funny how some people desperately want Nintendo to be fallowing Sony but whatever they do Nintendo actually did before Sony did :P (at least what I know of anyway)
