Its pretty close to what Ninty *could* do to the DS:

 - thinner than now

 - larger, high-res screen (PSP res or better)

 - touch on both(?) screens, unit works as motion sensitive

 - TV out (TV native res? 480p?)

 - DS cart slot, DS II cart slot, memcard (micro SD?) slot

 - GC level gfx (GC chipset? GC api?)

 - internal memory, 4gig (?) or just encrypted memcard

...drool... :)

Xmas '09, we *might* see something released. Might. No chance this year.

Damn. That looks frikken sick. I would slap some sort of analog stick on there though, if it has Gamecube graphics capability it would be nice to have that control but still, damn.

Wait a sec what's that thing on the bottom left? There's somthing below the d-pad, or is that just glare

That's probably the volume control.  There's a second picture of the unit closed, and there's no volume control on the side or bottom.

I think loading the games on the side is smart (so you can make the hinge thinner) and eliminating the GBA slot helps slim it, too.  However, this thing doesn't look like it'd be comfortable to play.  Based on the thickness and button layout, you'd probably cramp up in fifteen minutes.  Also, the shoulder buttons would be too thin.

 Looks aren't everything.

My End of 2008 Hardware Predictions (console only):

Wii : 50 million

360: 28 million

PS3: 24 million

These predictions were made on January 3rd and won't be revised

I would do awful things for that machine... if that became the next gen DS I would probably give up console (but not PC) gaming forever in favor of handheld gaming.

Naz, you do know Nintendo sends ppl to message boards to hear things like that. :) Such strong words... gotta be catching someones attention. :)

I have to agree, this layout of the buttons does not look comfortable to use. The screen sizes seem uneven, and the device itself is too thin to hold it easily while playing games.

I am a PC gamer, and also have a NDS now, but without access to a Nintendo Wii until End of 2007.

Currently playing: Super Smash Brothers Brawl(Wii), Mystery Dungeon: Shiren the Wanderer(DS), Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime (DS), WiiFit(Wii)

Games Recently Beaten: Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: My Life as a King (Normal; Very Hard after the next DLCs become available)

I believe that is Mario Kart GP from the arcades. Notice the picture of the player down in the bottom right. Fun game.

That would be a sick next gen DS.
 totally agree.

Yeah. I would buy a new DS if it were like that... and this new Mario Kart you're offering only sweetens the deal!

I would add a joystick in addition to the d-pad, but otherwise awesome.

I expect the next DS to look something like this, but I think the stylus will change...

I think the stylus will evolve into a miniature version of the Wii-remote, I'm thinking of a ballpoint size stylus with motion controlls and they will call it the DS-pointer instead. The DS will basically be a dual screen without buttons. And if buttons are needed to play, they would all be GUI-buttons on the LCD itself. Just a thought. But I don't think Nintendo will upgrade the DS unless they come up with something new and not just improved graphics.
