Would you donate money to your country if you thought it would help it?

If I knew that my money would help I would donate on a regular basis. If 300 million Americans just donated another 5 bucks a year that would be 1.5 billion right there to help out (yeah I can count). My biggest concern would be making sure it went somewhere I wanted it to instead of just a giant piggy bank so that Senators could buy a nicer hotel room for the night. Make a site where we can send money to whatever program we want!

Just like a non-profit will tell you how much of your donation goes to its cause, and how much is used to pay for expenses.

Here is the blog/story...........

There are several ways citizens can donate to the United States government. The easiest method is to decline all deductions or tax write-offs when you file your taxes. (Buffett, incidentally, takes quite a few deductions.)

If you're feeling more generous, you can write a check to the Financial Management Service, a bureau of the Treasury Department that accepts unconditional gifts "from individuals wishing to express their patriotism to the United States."

If you want your money to specifically help reduce the government's debts, then send your check to the government's (tax-deductible!) Bureau of the Public Debt.

There is also a "conscience fund," run by the Financial Management Service, that is set aside just for people who feel guilty about the time they short-changed Uncle Sam and want to make up for it. (A note of caution: giving to that fund doesn't mean the government will dismiss a past crime.)

So log onto one of these sites if you are an American or a very nice person from another country and help out your country beyond buying that new 3DS and parting with those sale taxes.

Even if this time you know without a doubt other than 1 percent of it to pay for the website to donate your money, that your money is going to go where you want it to go to? Lets say infrastructure. If your money was defin. going to go to pay for some bridge that collapsed, would you still not be willing?

Government is not in the business of helping anyone. Honestly your money would be better spent on lottery tickets or really anything else (at least you are supporting real people with real jobs when you do this). If you are looking for a tax write off then find a charity or an organization that is actually concerned with a just cause.

What is your donation to Uncle Sam going to do? Support more wars, entitlements, and other worthless government endeavors ... no thanks. I won't even just pick on the U.S. as really no governemnt is worthy of a dime of voluntary support let alone billions of dollars.

Take the 5 or 10 dollars and put it towards a game or something you enjoy. You will be happy to do something nice for yourself, and you can rest comfortably knowing that you are not actively supporting wars and coercion.

Wow! I understand where everyone is coming from, this country and most states missmanage money like they are trying to play a quick game of monopoly! In a perfect world I would like to though. this article did say that usually money was only donated to fix guilt.
