Specs don't mean shit these days, DS kicked PSP in the nuts and Wii raped both 360 and PS3. I vote 3DS by default right now just because I already know what games will be on it for the masses to care about in the long run.

you have disregarded an important fact, PRICE.

Remember that the DS at the time of release was $150 while the PSP was at $250, and the fact that it had the touch gaming gimmick, which took off on the smart phones as the masses loved it, and something the PSP never had. So no matter how high tech the PSP was it was just to expensive.

Come to the present day. The 3DS price is $250 and the4 PSvita has been priced at $250, also the PSVita not only has a multi-touch screen (similar to smart phones) it also has a multi-touch track pad. So given that both machines are the same price, the customer will turn to value, as in which device does more for the same money, and clearly the PSvita does more than the 3DS.

One thing to also factor in, is that portability is no longer an issue, poeple have already accomidated their life style to large devices like the Ipad and other tablets, gone are the days of ultra small phones, and in are the days of smart phones withy 4.3 inche screens.

The world has changed my friend, it's no longer the days of 2004, the hand held market is no longer the same, to disregard the PSvita is just silly, Right now the PSvita has everything in it's favour to really do Nintendo some damage and even has the potential to outsell the 3DS.

Agreed. If The PS3 launch with the same Price as the Wii, this gen would have been completly different.

I don't know... Honestly I'm gonna buy both of them.

Tablets generally sit next to people's beds =P Also, they really need to figure out a good way to protect those screens and maintain portability, that shit is already too big, my PSPs are thin out of the box but after a protective case, it's at least as thick as my DSL and longer which is BS, the Vita will be worse if I have to slap on an actual case to protect it from breaking. It's supposed to be a portable device that I can easily take everywhere, not some giant ass thing I can't put in my pocket when I'm trying to travel light. Also, speaking of gimmicks, what's Vita's gimmick anyways? 3DS has 3D, Vita has....???? You also bring up a good point about these 4.3 inch smart phones, I have an Atrix 4g that's already taking a good amount of my pocket space, how am I suppose to fit a giant ass Vita easily along with my 3DS, my wallet, my keys, my earphones, my goggles(don't ask,) my Blackberry, my micro usb cable, and a set or 2 of other keys? I'm already wearing cargos and I hardly have enough room for what I already have, the size of the Vita is pure ass if I can't just put it in the pocket and go without thinking that it's a burden on the side. We are in the age of a crap ton of stuff we have to carry, this thing is gonna end up like my PSPs and never leave the house which would completely defeat the purpose of me wanting to take it on the road with me while trying to travel light.

The world hasn't changed, we still have to carry too much shit, and people won't bother taking the Vita outside the damn house if it's that big. Their only possible saving grace so far is that they are the same price, which could change very fast as well, oh, and female user base, they need to address that, if the Vita can't cater to females, they'll still be in deep dog shit.

frankly I really think people are over reaching the difference in visual fidelity between the psv and the 3ds, the powervr sgx 543 mp2 benchmarks at about 20 million lit textured polygons, uncharted ga draws .26 million polygons,
http://www.joystiq.com/2011/06/02/uncharted-golden-abyss-ngp-preview/
and numerous other previews place uncharted in polygon counts much more inline with the gamecube and xbox than the ps3/360, it clearly can texture well and does lighting well, and that should bolster it past the 6th gen visuals but it isn't ps3, considering games like resident evil revelations is running at twice the frame rate as uncharted the difference isn't nearly what the difference between the psp and ds was
also people are going to come down with SONY IS SELLING IT AT A LOSS FOR 3 YEARS!!!!!
that isn't what was said, Kaz said that they intend to turn a profit on the psv in 3 years, given the wording that sounds as if they want to have made money on the investment as a whole in 3 years
http://translate.google.com/translate?js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&sl=auto&tl=en&u=http%3A%2F%2Fjp.reuters.com%2Farticle%2FtopNews%2FidJPJAPAN-21584220110608
basically it will come down to the games released, multimedia functionality is already gobbled up by phones so I really think that will be a moot point, the 3ds could have an advantage with 3d movies if anyone even cares by the time they arrive, but that's it.
as for games, both have a lot of announced 3rd party support and a little displayed third party support so that is pretty much another null point at the moment (I know epic said the unreal 3 engine is coming to it, but just because an engine is running on a device it doesn't mean that it can support every game developed with that engine), now if nintendo does with the 3ds what they have done with the wii for the past oh 3 years the psv will have better sales in the bag, if nintendo does what they should be doing i.e. make games for it, the 3ds should
battery life will be as poor on the psv as the 3ds, Oled isn't a panacea and unless that thing has a huge capacity I doubt it will have better battery life than the 3ds, good thing neither run on AA batteries huh
frankly the biggest concern I have for the 3ds and psv is that developers won't be able to support exclusively and will end up with poorly optimized multiplatform games
regardless I'll buy both,

I HAVE A DOUBLE DRAGON CAB IN MY KITCHEN!!!!!!

NOW A PUNISHER CAB!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 3DS definitely wins in the portability department. One thing I don't like about the PSP is that it isn't as portable, I can still easily fit it in my pocket, but I'd rather have a smaller device.

-Sony said that the Vita wouldn't have any internal memory.

-The 3DS should win in portability because it's smaller, (and Sony also said that the Vita isn't pocketable)

-Why are you assuming that the Vita's browser is better? Did Sony say that it would support Flash?

-Both have outdated cameras (640x480= 0.3 MP)

-Also, durability should be a tie (we aren't sure about the Vita)

When did Sony ever say that Vita would not have internal memory??? I got mutliple links that say otherwise...

PSP browser was better than DS browser and rumors are that PS-VITA and PS3 will support google chrome which is why i gave browser to PS-VITA

3DS is not really a pocket carrying device either seeing that it is about he same size as the Vita

Vita camera is a 960 x 544 camera compared to the 3DS's 0.3 megapixel camera.

Durabilty i guess can be a tie though.  :)

Yes it is. The 3DS easily fits into my pockets, it almost the same size as a DS Lite but just a tiny bit chunkier. Have you ever seen a PS Vita in real life? It's much bigger than the 3DS, it's even bigger than the PSP 1000.

Also 3DS wins in the durability department as well due to it's clam shell design.

3DS battery life is 3-5 hours on max settings not 3-4.

3DS file compatibility:

  • Photo -  JPEG, MPO
  • Audio - MP3, ACC (.m4a, .mp4 or .3gp)
  • Video - N/A
You're missing Infrared Transceiver from connectivity on the 3DS side.
Both systems have microphones.
Also nothings been officially confirmed on the PS Vita internal storage.

"Also 3DS wins in the durability department as well due to it's clam shell design"

i don't understand this how does having the screen supported by a thin plastic lid make it more durable than a candy bar form factor?

"Also nothings been officially confirmed on the PS Vita internal storage."

theres no internal memory it has to be bought seperately

The lid acts as a barrier shielding the screens from direct impact so there's less chance of them cracking. The outer plastic layer isn't that thin, it can sustain some damage. The PS Vita on the other hand has it's screen out in the open ready to be raped by an accident.

Also the PS Vita must have some internal memory for firmware updates etc.

the lid acts as a barrier when its closed and you're travelling but when in use and open i'd think its more susceptible to damage

with regards to memory i guess i assumed you mean't memory accessible to the user

3DS has a 3-7 battery life, it can even reach 10 hours using DS games, but anyway the average is 5 hours. It's jut that no one uses properly the wireless and the illumination, with little effort you can reach 5 hours with no problems.

CURRENTLY PLAYING: Xenoblade (Wii), Super mario 3D land (3DS), Guild Wars (PC)

Just get a small backpack next to no extra weight, both hands still free, problem solved

3DS is for me, a lot of your results are opinions such as internet browser or arem't truth as camera's resolution, battery or internal memory

I think there isn't as much difference between graphics as has been said. Mostly is resolution and RE Revelations proves that 3DS is capable of great graphics but in 3D.

Portability is the first issue on a portable device and PS-Vita isn't. In pocket the analog stick might break, if my pocket is big enough to handle it, and i don't think so.

Maybe at the end of the day i'll buy a Vita if the games are good enough, but right now Uncharted isn't enough.

PSV has valot more then uncharted, there are 40 confirmed games the one I have my eye on is gravity daze, and 153 3rd party devs are working on something for it, not to mention the enhanced BC for psp games on psn, psv is going to have alot of good games
