Forums - Gaming Discussion - Official IP list for Sony, Nintendo and Microsoft (in progress)

HEAVY RAIN should not be on Sony's list. It's very much Quantic Dream's IP. Now fixed.

Alan Wake should not be Microsoft's list. Also now fixed.

Edit: In fact, much of those lists should be edited. Microsoft does not own Mass Effect or Gears of War. Going to fix.

MS owns Mass Effect 1 AFAIK.

Nope, strictly EA's property. Like HR, MS just published.

Well, no I didn't say the franchise was, just Mass Effect 1. Ea can't do anything with that, MS owns the rights to it.

Was just looking for a Ninty one...it may be difficult due to the sheer number and different departments...

Here lies the dearly departed Nintendomination Thread.

This is as close as you will get to a list for Nintendo's IPs. It's not very accurate because over half of their IPs aren't listed there.

Hope this doesn't turn these forums into a list war forum like other stupid sites.

An IP is an IP though, I'm not sure you can own only part of it. The ME IP is EA's, but Microsoft likely has some say in what happens to ME1. Again, it's very similar to HEAVY RAIN; Quantic owns the IP, but Sony has some say in what happens with the game. However, Sony still doesn't own it. In fact, Gears of Wars 1-3, HR, & ME1 are all in the same boat; they have publishers that have some say, but those publishers don't own the properties.

Its publishing rights.  They own the rights to publish the title for X number of years.  Once that number is reached, anything can be done with the title.  This is how it is for ME1, but I would assume its the same or close to the same for the rest.

Here are some that I belive to be missing in that list:

- Brain Age

- Ice Climber

- Wave_Race

And a list of games where I'm not sure whether they belong to Nintendo or not:

- Geist

- Duck Hunt

- Clu Clu Land

- Wrecking Crew

- Balloon Fight

- Mach Rider

- 1080°

- Rhythm Heaven

- Drill Dozer

- Meteos

Nintendo actually has less studios and IPs than Sony.

Really? I know they have a lot...but I don't think a company famous for their 1st party games over 26 years has less than one going for around 15 ;) It would be close though!

Meteos might not, but the rest on that list definitely does, as they were created almost completely in-house. Hell, Wrecking Crew and Balloon Fight are two of the NES' first year games, foundational Nintendo properties

Monster Hunter: pissing me off since 2010.
