Nice so your right around where I am for my laptop (7.0) Before this my other laptop had a 3.1 >_< I couldn't do anything with that!

You tried playing the Witcher 2 on it yet?

Haven't got it yet, I won't be able to afford new games for a while. Only tried Crysis, Dirt 2 and Dragon Age Origins on it. Crysis runs at 45 - 50 fps on average on high at 1366x786 resolution 2x AA, only dropping to 30 in very excessive foliage. Dirt 2 and DAO run at 60 fps constant with everything maxed.

Damn you can run Crysis 2 on high on that thing?!?  Man if I could share my copy of The Witcher 2 with you I would cause i'm interested to see how your computer could handle it. Mine can only play it on Medium settings with 22-28 FPS (but for some reason I can't really tell that the Frame rate is so low)

I think it's mostly due to the CPU rather than the GPU. The i7-2630QM is supposedly the 15th fastest available CPU in the market nowadays. Each core is 2.00 GHz but can turboboost to 2.9 GHz.

The 6770M isn't too shabby as well. Since this is the 192 bits GDDR5 version, it's performance is on par with the GT 555M and HD 6870M GDDR3.

Also, what are your PC specifications?

My processor is the exact same as yours (I just noticed that) but my windows experience says its only a 7.4

I have 8GB DDR3 ram

a GeForce GTX 440M

Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit

Well, with those specs you should be running The Witcher 2 with much higher FPS. You sure it isn't a drivers related problem?

I'm a computer noob so i'm not sure what the problem is....I have all my videocard drivers up to date (I think at least) and Steam automatically updated the patch for the Witcher 2 as well so that can't be the problem.

Have you tried playing around with the configs on the Forceware? Options like allowing Triple Buffering, Clamping negative LOD Bias and such can increase the fps performance a lot with almost no hit to the graphical performance

Do you mean tweak the graphics card itself or messing with the settings in The Witcher 2?

EDIT: Just found out what you mean....what else should I play around with to get the best performace out of my graphics card?

For the money, it looks like you got a great buy, except for screen as others have pointed out.  I would give it a solid 8.5/10 only for the reduced (active gaming) life of your battery of about 1-1.5 hours.  As far as The Witcher 2 is concerned, it is a driver issue with AMD and will be should be getting fixed on this month's driver release around the 15th or - 2-3 days.

Edit:  sorry didn't see comment that it was for NVIDIA 440M.  My bad.  And yes, it is still a driver issue, especially with dual cards on desktops.  Don't know when NVIDIA is going to release driver fix.

Ok so most of my problems is because NVIDIA needs to release a driver?

Oh and I don't have dual cards its just a single card in a laptop.

You can try switching the transparency aliasing from multisampling to supersampling. That usually gives you 20% more FPS and the graphical hit isn't that noticeable (at least for me). Other than those options, I really don't know, since it boils down to each individual game.

Yes, it is a driver issue.  Also, they said that there was going to be another patch to The Witcher 2 for some kind of lag issue with the mouse on Windows 7.  There is already a patch from Microsoft about said mouse lag for the main OS functions, but not for games.

here is link for patch 1.2 news which should come out tomorrow.

Well I messed around and I the FPS changed are now 25-31 :-/

I even put everything on the lowest possible settings and I only got 32-40 FPS

I can't wait for the driver update to fix these problems. Cause I know my computer can handle it better then this!

I just wanted to correct a little mistake here.  Each core can run at 2.00 GHz, and technically speaking, have the ability to all run at 2.9 GHz, but they never do.  The turboboost occurs when not all the processing power is being utilized.  This leads to one or more of the cores essentially being "shut off."  Since they are shut off, more power can be applied towards the cores still on, and the overall heat made will still be able to be cooled since less cores will be producing heat.

So basically, if you aren't using your full processing power, certain cores can be turned off, allowing the other cores to be sped up.  Now, I'm not completely certain in regards to the 2.9 GHz, but I believe that is if you are only utilizing one of your cores.

Money can't buy happiness. Just video games, which make me happy.

That makes sense. I didn't knew about Turbo Boost before buying this laptop (since I had an dual core before), so I asked around to understand what it was, but it makes more sense that it's just one of the cores that gets turbo boosted.

That means that in games that only use a single core, you'll get the 2.9 GHz instead of 2.0 GHz if you were using the 4 cores for the game right?

After extensively playing Crysis 2 on Hardcore configuration (at 1366x768 resolution), i'm very, very pleased with the performance of this laptop, just as I was yesterday when I benchmarked it with the original Crysis.

Normal FPS during playthrough is 30 - 40 fps, dropping to 25 on very heavy firefights, but that's as low as it goes. Which is a clear contrast to my previous laptop, which struggled to get 25 even on Gamer configuration.

Can't wait until Deus Ex and Skyrim releases xD.
