A very good member once said that the Wii will hit a certain sales point then start to sharply drop. His reasoning was that it launched so cheap that the people who wanted it would be able to get it without thinking about the price, the problem is once the people who wanted it got it, the sales would drop. His reasoning was once the competition got cheaper the Wii would seem less and less attractive and it could only attract a certain amount of people as it would never be universaly acepeted.

This is not a troll post just an observation. and a way of saying, he told you so and you all called him stupid :D

why do you think the sales have gone so low? Is it because it seems outdated? It only had a certain shelf life? Nintendos failure to take advantage of a no1 system? Sony's and microsoft aggresive campaigns and 3rd parties?

My personal opinion is that nintendo will always have it's die hard fans, but the problem is it broke into a "blue market" and nobody knew how big that market was. Once that market starts to dry up so will the sales. The only way a console will sell huge lifetime sales is by attracting the whole spectrum of gamers. not just bringing in new gamers.

Dont mind the spelling, i didnt proofread it.

agree...disagree

I didnt say that, Price was the reason Wii did so well, pluss it offers new experiances that nobody had the chance to do before.

You must mean the ones that posted after me?

Yep. I also believe price played a huge role in it's success and also a reason why the competition had a slower start.

What RolStoppable said. Though price does matter.

As for the $200 Xbox 360 price point. Yeah it hit $200 a year before the Wii did. But the Arcade model at the time was pretty limited without a hard drive and the 4 GB internal flash model is still pretty limited without one (ie. You can't play Halo: Reach online co-op without a Xbox 360 certified hard drive. The 4 GB model is an internal flash drive and so it won't work with that). http://www.1up.com/news/halo-reach-coop-busted-4gb Bungie said they would fix the issue (they said this back in September) and they never did. I'm sure Microsoft did this on purpose (they are the publisher so Bungie has to respect their wishes) to force people to fork over the big bucks for their proprietary Slim hard drives.

What's the historical reason why a console keeps selling for years? Good third party support. Does the Wii have that? No, absolutely not.

No. The reason is this:

If that can be popular anything can be popular.

Why would it matter? The Wii had no trouble to keep selling for years and once Nintendo started to put out the wrong games even price cuts didn't do any good. There was another surge in late 2009 when NSMB Wii (as right as a Nintendo game can be) launched, but with nothing to follow it up it didn't take until too long until hardware sales suffered again.

Or look at the DS. It had the games, first and third party, never needed a price cut. Except for the first year (at least in Europe, late 2005), but it was back up to €150 once the DS Lite launched. Its competition, the PSP, went through all sorts of price reductions and bundles and never had an influence on DS sales. The only region where the PSP actually achieved anything just so happens to be the one country where it enjoys by far the best third party support out of any system right now.

I guess you are one of those people (just like Obieslut) who actually believed that the Wii sold because it was cheap. You know, the DS only sold because it was cheap too.

way to jump to conclusions there genius

I am one of those who think price plays a critical role in sales, especially in the current economy. But that is by no means the whole story. But denying it has no impact is down right wrong.

Price is not only about price cuts. Starting price matters too. If the xbox 360 and ps3 both had similar price ranges to the wii the wii would not be enjoying the same level of market share they are doing now.Heck we will probably see more evidence to support that when (and hopefully they will time these right cuz timing is also important) ps360 do a price cut in the future. Price dictates when some can buy products they want depending on the money they are capable of spending.

Actually wii got a price cut right? it still is lagging behind badly compared to the HD consoles in gaming content this year but it will see a nice boost. But keep in mind cheaper the product is already, less the effect will be.

Wii was a success because Ninty did many things (at least from the companys POV) right from the beginning of the gen. making a underpowered system so they can price it relatively lower was one of them
